To get here, you need to go to the adjacent museum buildings, and get free tickets there.
Inside there are very beautiful frescoes of the Assumption Cathedral, made around 1605. They cover a total area of ​​1080 m².
This is one of the few temples where the full cycle of wall paintings from the era of Boris Godunov has been preserved.
The fresco "Saint Christopher" is especially notable, one of the few ancient preserved frescoes, where this saint, according to the apocryphal version, is depicted with a horse's head.
Definitely worth a visit!

The Holy Dorminition Monastery in Sviyazhsk is one of two functioning monasteries on this island-city. It was established in 1555, just 3 years after the conquest of Kazan by tthe Russian forces. During the Revolution and the Civil War it became a prison and the execution site. During the Soviet times it was a psychiatric hospital. Now it is a monastery again. We visited it on a workday. It was really quiet and peaceful.

The monastic complex of Sviyazhsk has been recently reconstructed and offers a mix of spiritual experience and light sightseeing. There's lots to see and learn about the history of this peninsula, its importance in the crusades of Ivan IV. and much more. Many picturesque paths to walk and nice souvenir stalls as well.

Such a beautiful and serene place. Sviyashk is a gem and this monastery is as elegant and relaxing as any building on it.

Magnificent monastery on Sviyashk with beautifully well kept grounds and some magnificent churches like St Nicholas and the Assumption Cathedral.
It is such a picturesque place and the churches have stunning icons and iconostasis. Such a serene place to wander and enjoy the atmosphere of reverence.
You'll have to cover legs and shoulders when going in but they provide the wraps.
