My parents are members of the museum and bring all out of town guests here. There is something new to see every time we visit. The museum houses an impressive collection of art that you would not expect to find in a small town.

This is much more of an art museum that one has any reason to expect in Winona MN. The unbelievable exhibit is the result of the amazing generosity of one patron which had loan dozens of world class paintings to this museum. There are an amazing number of the biggest names in art there. Go see it. You will be... More

It is hard to believe that this museum is in little Winona! It has a fine collection of art, along with a great special exhibit from local artists when we visited. It is near the slough that serves as a staging area for barges so make sure you also walk around the grounds. Very reasonable admission price.

Wonderful collection of art. They have a great picture search game for kids. The kids get a picture of a part of a painting which they need to find within the collection.

The collection is unbelievable- so many big names in a little town! What I especially appreciate is their family-friendly vibe. Excellent, creative, super-affordable (free- $2) children's programming that helps make art appreciation fun and accessible. Even if you go on a non-program day, they have a great reading nook and search-and-find handouts to make the visit enjoyable for kids and... More

Such a beautiful building with beautiful gardens, along the scenic Mississippi River. Great photo ops outside. No photos allowed inside. The six galleries rooms are very well done. Mix of old and new art - paintings and sculptures. The museum hostess was pleased to tell us about the new painting on display "Washington crossing the Delaware" which previously hung in... More

This museum does have a few "sailing" type paintings and some related art work BUT the secret is the large amount of "Old Masters" painting from such artists as Whistler, Van Gough, Picasso, and others. The "Washington Crossing the Delaware" painting that hung in the White House for 30 plus years is also here. Each painting has a description and... More

The Hand of the River: Works by Moira Bateman and Leo Smith is well worth seeing. I learned a great deal about the eco art techniques used by Ms Bateman. The wood art of Mr Smith is exceptional. 150 Years of Marine Art is also very interesting and includes works by master artists of many schools and eras. Washington Crossing... More

and delighted to find two new vaulted galleries built since then. High point was an original "Washington Crossing the Delaware" which once hung in the West Wing of the White House
