Definitely a surprise find. This small town art museum has works by Picasso, Van Gogh, Renoir, Matisse and other masters, in addition to traveling displays like the work of Christian Vizl who does under ocean black and whites. All the art work features water somewhere in the image. It wasn't very busy and the museum security guard spent time sharing some interesting information about the artists and their work.

Not quite what we expected. We were told that we would find information here about Mississippi River shipping here. Had hoped to learn about the barges we had seen on the river. What we did find was a beautiful collection of art. Amazed with the pieces we would have never seen in our lifetime. Artwork from artists like Picasso were a pleasant surprise! Beautiful view of the Mississippi with outside benches, tables and chairs to enjoy a picnic at.

Who knew!? Who knew little old Winona had originals like Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso and SO many other greats!?? This really is an amazing place. It is peaceful. The theme of marine is apparent. The quality of artists is not what you'd expect from a small town in MN. Go. Take your family. Take your friends. The flow of the building is easy. Great ambiance, nice volunteers. Enjoy the day! 💜

A must visit! Who would have thought in Winona? Among the best artists in the world who have been sought due to the logical (Museum located on the Mississippi River) subject connection with water. Among the many highlights, "Washington Crossing the Delaware" (one of the two originals). Spent 2.5 hours; another hour could have been easily devoted.
