From Hastings to Winona, this was a blessing of a scenic drive through the MN river valley. Stages include river bluff views, small town stops, farmland scenery, flood plain flats, up and downhill climbs. Whether in a car or on a motorcycle, this is one scenic trip anyone who enjoys a great ride should take.

Nature and History lovers, if you happen to pass by these cities during your US highway 61 drive, I highly recommend these: we opted for a half day driving and activities itinerary, departing from Eau Claire area, first stopping by Wabasha (National Eagle Center, coffee and chocolates right across the building) and then heading to Perrot Park in Trempealeau (Brady... I drove Hwy 61 between Hastings and LaCrosse a few days ago. I no longer live in this area but when I did I commuted from Winona to LaCrescent every day. It is truly one of the most scenic drives in the country. There were still ice flows coming out of the bluffs, colored from the minerals in the soil.... More

U.S. Highway 61 is a beautiful drive along the Mississippi starting with an entry around La Crosse and I have taken it up to Red Wing and back of course. A beautiful drive in the Spring, Summer, Fall, and an interesting drive in the Winter to say the least.

The stretch from Lake City, MN to LaCrosse, WI is fantastic in the fall with all the trees in full color. Set against the backdrop of the Mississippi and the river bluffs it is truly amazing.

We had perfect weather for our highway 61 drive on a Sunday afternoon. It is a lovely drive through the valley along the Mississippi. The towns are picturesque.

We had a lovely sunny day to enjoy fall color on this drive along the Mississippi River. It was a relaxing and beautiful drive. A must see in Minnesota in October.

Attended Winona State baseball fall intra-squad game. Was a good preview of the 2016 teams. The freshmen were available to see. Went to Ground Round for dinner. Had the walleye pike and it was excellent.

We were down just for some road trip sight seeing fun. We did not really have a destination, just planning to cruise around hiway 61, sit and have lunch in a park. The sights during fall is magnificent. Relaxing to the eye and the spirit(especially if youre not the one driving). The bluff on one side and the lake on... More

Route 61 takes you from the Wisconsin border up to Winona. The road follows the Mississippi River where colors are starting to turn. My disappointment was the overgrowth preventing good views of the river, including in a scenic overlook where the river was barely visible.
