Great Local Ski Hill

Welch has been great over the years as a local ski hill. The additional of the back bowl a few years ago was a very welcome upgrade. It has a very nice feel and really enjoy... read more

I took my son to Welch Village yesterday, it was our first trip. We wondered if Presidents day would be busy and it was. Our biggest complaint was that we rented gear and they were out of ski poles. Now if they were really busy and all of the skis were rented I could understand this, however only about a... More

I'm 56 and took beginner lessons at Welsch (yes, new girlfriend). I signed up for the 3 weekend lessons but it was 1 degree the first Saturday and less than that the next so I didn't go. To help catch up I took a Learn It lesson on a Thursaday night, since no one else showed up I had a... More

Great day on the hills to get ready for Colorado trip. Drove in from Wisconsin. Backbowls still had nice fresh deep powder(6 days after snowfall) to prepare us for Colorado. Lifts comfortable and fast, good variety of hills considering in Midwest. Employees were all friendly, lots of smiles, snowboard instructor Tim did a great job with my intermediate boarders, great... Three children (ages 7, 8, 9) and grandma (50+) took 'first-timer' lessons today. It was great. The staff were friendly and helpful. Sign-in was smooth. The teachers were attentive and patient. We really liked the Edge approach. Easy to learn. Grandma learned quickly and felt confident. Rode the chair lift and came down the Green slope. The children had a... More

Welch has been great over the years as a local ski hill. The additional of the back bowl a few years ago was a very welcome upgrade. It has a very nice feel and really enjoy skiing back there. They have also upgrade the MaddJaxx bar/restaurant and the Black Diamond bar in the main chalet. Both serve great bloody marys... More

We do a ski weekend with several neighborhood families every year or so. We go to ski area within driving distance of Minneapolis. We've done Welch a few times. It's pretty pricy, for it's size. If you can go when there are no crowds, it's a value since you can get lots of runs in. The chalet tends to fill... More

Welch is a fun ski hill for Twin City folk looking for a family friendly ski environment within a short drive of the cities. As far as vertical, Welch is probably as good as you are going to get within 45 minutes of the cities. The hill is littered with blue and green runs in front of the main chalet.... More

We just made our annual day trip to Welch Village and as always had a great time. Nice variety of runs and conditions were surprisingly good after just one snowfall (3-5 inches the day before) over the whole month of December. Last several years I've bought our tickets during their July 1st preseason sale, and will continue to do so,... More

Welch is a good place for a day trip. I've make the trek from Rochester, Mn to Welch hundreds of times over the past 20+ years. Either for night skiing, racing or simply a weekend AM of fun. Varied terrain for all kinds of skiers. If you like steeps, the Back Bowl is "ok" but frankly too short. One way... More

I remember this place being better in previous years. Seems like the management has gone downhill, staff seems to be vaguely distant and or not very personable. On several occasions, while buying our tickets, in the cafeteria and also at Madd Jaxx bar, the employees were either talking to another employee while we were waiting or seemed distracted by something...
