This spot was difficult to find, but so glad we didn't give up. We saw it on trip advisor and drove back and forth on Scenic 61 looking for it. When we finally found it, we felt it was well worth our time and effort. The lake was very calm that day, so we didn't see crashing waves, but it was gorgeous non the less. We relaxed and enjoyed the scenery for at least an hour. Here are directions that I hope are clear. Between Duluth and Two Harbors look for Lake County 222, which is Stoney Point Dr. It's dirt road. It's at about mile marker 15, although you won't see the mile marker on the scenic byway, only on the main highway 61. IT'S REALLY WORTH IT!

Nice spot to sit and gaze on the north shore of Lake Superior. Perfect spot but expect to get your car floor dirty. Road/parking area can be damp and easy to track into car. You need to keep a little one in hand for safety here to avoid slipping into crevice or tripping on rocks.
Bummed because I lost my Fitbit there, but that was my own fault. Hopefully, someone found it and can get some use out of it!

We stopped along the North Shore Scenic Drive at the 15.0 mile mark (from Duluth). There is a one mile pulloff that goes right up to the lake. We pulled over with the kids had a great time agate searching, skipping rocks and climbing the giant boulders. A nice place to go for a dip in the water as well.

Enjoyed the view when we arrived but there was lots of stairs. Got nice photos. Not many people when we were there early morning on week day.

Decided to venture off the beaten path when we had a little time and discovered Stoney Point. The highlight is the fisherman's shack. Being a photographer I had fun taking pics of my family with that as the backdrop. The scenery up and down the shore is nothing spectacular.

We stopped here for a few minutes during our recent trip up north. It’s relatively easy to find as long as you know which gravel road to turn off on. You then drive a short ways, and park alongside the road. The road loops, so you can easily join up with the highway again when finished.
We were fortunate enough to be there on a day with big waves. No surfers, though. It’s a good spot to take photos and stretch your legs for a bit.

We were here when the big lake was calm as the sun was setting and it was gorgeous. We were here a couple days later as the waves were crashing. We saw a lot of deer in the area. You just park along the dirt road.

We didn't stop for long as we were on our way to the next item on our Superior Circle Tour itinerary, but I'm glad we did take the few moments to enjoy Nature's beauty. Waves crashing into the rock wall making the music of the lake.

When Lake Superior is waving Stoney Point might be the closest you can get to crashing waves along Minnesota’s North Shore!

WE were looking for places to look for agates. This is not the place. Hard to get to the beach, and not too many smaller stones here, only bigger ones( and not agates ). Great views of the lake, sunrises especially.

I have been researching the CCC camp (Northshore Wayside Park) that was created here in September of 1935. I have an extensive summary of this camp as my father in law was an enrollee here in September of 35 and although he transferred out in the following spring...all the camp newsletters from May of 36 through the fall of 1937 can be found at the Historical Society Library in St. Paul. Fascinating history...

Awesome views & neat place!! Will certainly go back again to explore more.
My only question is...isn't it ilegal to take rocks from the shore. There were 2 cars of people taking bucket after bucket of rocks (both small & large rocks). I think it should be patrolled more to keep the prestige it has now.
