Shipwrecks from a mighty 1905 November gale prompted this rugged landmark's construction. Completed by the U.S. Lighthouse Service in 1910, Split Rock Light Station soon became one of Minnesota's best known landmarks. Restored to its 1920s appearance, the light station offers a glimpse of lighthouse life in this remote and spectacular setting. Split Rock Lighthouse is a National Historic Landmark.

It was an amazing view at the lighthouse! Unfortunately when we went the gift shop was closed and so was the keepers cabin. Looking through the tower viewer was really fun! It was real windy but I would go up for that view if everything else was closed again. Definitely a nice, budget-friendly excursion.

Split Rock Lighthouse has an incredible view of Lake Michigan, with a jaw dropping cliff that drops straight down from the edge of the lighthouse. Further, you can go up into the lighthouse for a higher view, or walk down to the beach below the cliff. Finally, there are other historical buildings on the grounds, as well as a nice... More

It is well worth the price of the tour for Split Rock Lighthouse. The tour is informative and interesting. You can go into one of the lighthouse keepers houses and it is furnished. The Lighthouse itself is really pretty with the original signal intact. It's a steep tight space though fyi. Beautiful view

We have traveled through the area so many times yet always find time to stop at this fantastic treasure. The views are amazing and always a little different each time we stop depending on the lighting and weather conditions. Take some time to stroll the grounds and along the water if you have the time.

We really enjoyed touring the grounds and old fashion light house. The view was spectacular. The photo you see on Trip Advisor can be duplicated by taking a fun walk. This is the iconic spot for taking photos of the rocks and lighthouse together. It's worth the trek.

Split Rock offers great views and walking areas. We were there on a Tuesday. The visitor center was closed that day which we were not informed about when we purchased a $5 parking permit. We probably wouldn't have stayed had I known. It was very cold so we didn't stay for very long since there was no warm building to... More

We got here a little late in the day so we only had a few minutes to run through the museum. It is a small museum but has good stuff to look at and learn. There is a good size gift shop that we were unable to go to since we chose to go to the museum first. You can... More
