This is also called Palisade Head which is on Palisade road. There were 2 cliff climbers there when we arrived which was interesting to watch them gear up and go over the cliff. Very windy and I would not recommend for small children as you are on the edge of a 90 foot cliff. Very beautiful area.

One of the most incredible views on the North Shore! Well worth seeking out. Look for the road to Palisade Head. Follow the road to the end, where a huge microwave tower stands. Paths are not marked and there are no handrails or guards. Keep kids under control!

There seems to be some confusion as to the name of this place: not sure if it's Hellacious Overlook or Palisade Head. The place we went to looked just like the photos others have posted. Breathtaking views! We were there over MEA weekend. It was chilly but bright and sunny. There were some college age kids rock climbing - fun... More

This is definately an under-rated site and everyone should take some time to check it out. Beautiful views, great hiking, easy to get to. Loved it!!

The view from here is outstanding. It is free, and it is easy to find. There is a little green sign that says palisade head on it right along the highway, there is also a church right near it named the palisade head something or other. Make sure to go beyond the parking area, go down to the stone wall... More

Hellacious Overlook is actually much farther north on the Superior Hiking Trail. It's between Judge Magney State Park and the Northern Terminus. Lives up to its name, but once you climb it the views are outstanding!

We were lucky enough to take in the view on a gorgeous fall day. My son loved climbing the rocks and my daughter liked the friendly chipmunks. Take the time to pull off 61 and drive up. There were some rock climbers too. If you are a climber. This would be a great place to do it.
