If you choose to visit here, set your alarms! We slept in our van 5 minutes away from the beach and still didn’t make the start of the sunrise.
A groundsman feeds the kangaroos and wallabies every morning at sunrise and it is the most spectacular sight you will see.
Yes these animals are here because they are being fed, but this is their natural habitat and it’s amazing!

I was sooo looking forward to our visit here and it did not disappoint! What an incredibly beautiful area! We enjoyed the beach at sunset then returned at Sunrise to catch the Roos on the beach.
I was prepared for the Ranger to draw in the Roos by feeding them, but I enjoyed them much more when I wandered away down the beach and caught them in action fighting.
Contrary to what I thought, they did not disappear shy first light but actually stayed around for probably a good 1/2-45 min after sunrise before exiting to the cover of the forest.
If your in the area, this really is a Must do! I’m sure you will not be disappointed!

The location and camp was perfect. We have stayed twice now. The first time was perfect, helpful staff, telling us all about the camp and what it has to offer at what times. The second and most recent time was disappointing. The lady who was in reception was borderline useless. She didn’t explain anything and when we asked questions she had 0 knowledge which is not a problem but the way she delivered the fact she didn’t know anything was in a sarcastic ‘can’t be bothered to help’ tone. She later then referred to us as “Oi” instead of “excuse me” or something more professional when entering the camp at night. For a relaxed and beautiful place she really brought the atmosphere down and it’s a shame. The ladies who were helpful the first time we visited should really share their knowledge on how to care for their guests to the clearly less caring staff.

Every morning, rangers put out food and kangaroos and wallabies come to eat abd entertain. It is wonderful to watch them. They start about an hour before sunrise. Most of the group leaves at sunrise but a few hang around for another hour. It's very peaceful.

We travelled around Australia for 3 weeks and this was our worst experience by far. We saw a lot of wild life everywhere, but here it is not wildlife, it is a circus. The ranger put some food for the kangaroos and wallabies every morning and they obviously come to eat. Everywhere else is written not to feed wildlifle, kangaroos will get aggressive if you feed them, etc. But why do they do it here? Obviously to attract tourists that normaly would not come. Okay, the trails around are nice, the landscape is beautiful. I enjoyed much more the trail seeing turtles from the outlook than seeing more than 50 people around some "wild" kangaroos on the beach. Don't go there if you want to see wild kangaroos and wallabies, there are many other places where you can see them!

We only spend here 1 night, but on the day of arrival we had a nice walk along the beach during sunset. The next morning we got up at 5.15am to watch the sunrise at the beach, together with the kangaroos that drop by each day. In our case we had 6 kangaroos and a perfect sunrise. Bringing a light is understandable, but turn it off when you arrive at the beach

Stayed in a beach hut for 2 nights. Gives a feel of being in very natural and beautiful surroundings, and the hut was equipped with everything we needed. The wallabies on the beach as it became light (it wasn’t great weather, so no sunrise) were an added bonus. The staff were extremely helpful. A wonderful experience.

Absolutely amazing, don't listen to all the bad reviews. The bad reviews are written from people from the beach who just waltz into the park and have a swim and then get kicked out. Because you have to pay to use the facilities doesn't mean it's a bad park. Really nice community and lovely to wake up on the beach! Just make sure to bring mozzie spray! Will be visiting again!

Short drive from Mackay - very scenic place and a great walk around the bluff - we could see turtles in the water far below! Afterwards we drove to Seaforth which has a thriving takeaway shop and lovely recreational area at the shore. One of my favourite days on this holiday in FNQ.

Amazing area, the beach and rock formation are very spectacular. Seen the kangaroos on the beach on dawn was a nice experience. It has nice picnic areas but due to biting midgets they are not used by visitors. Try not to stay for too long at the top or you will get eaten alive. Even after applying bushman insect repellent they kept on biting even face and head.

I'm looking for transport from Mackay Airport to Cape Hillsborough Tourist Park. Is there a Bus Service that anyone knows of - I was hoping to hire a car but seems car rentals dont happen on weekends ( ?? ) - IF I can find a rental vehicle is a normal vehicle ok or do I need a 4WD

What are the walking trails like and are there any other sights beyond the wildlife. Like swimming? Kayaking?
Written July 30, 2019
Yes! Its very popular for kayaking and I often take my SUP board there.

Our car isn’t 4WD. Is that ok to drive into the park to the beach?
Written July 14, 2019
Does anyone know if the wallabies usually come out onto the beach at sunrise during winter? Looking at going up this weekend but not sure if it's too cold for them to be out and about.
Written June 19, 2018
I was there in July...the conservationists feed them so I don’t see why not
😊

Is there a way to get here without driving your own car? Maybe from Mackey or some other larger city? Didn't plan on hiring a car...
Written February 8, 2017
Mate I live out that way. Hit me up. Can stay at our place if you like.
