The Château is located between the pretty, small village of Allaman and its railway station further up, both about a 10 minutes walk away. The a bit neglected ground is open, so one can have a good look at the castle from the outside. Closed though is the interior and when we were there it gave the impression of not being inhabited. In recent times the Château regularly changed hands between real estate companies, private owners and banks. At least the vineyards of 15 hectares, which one can see below the castle towards lake Geneva, are doing well, producing fine white and red wines, looked after by a winemaker from nearby Féchy, and named after the castle 'Château d'Allaman AOC'. The origins of the castle are not well known, but they go back to Savoy times. Nothing remains of the medieval building, since it was destroyed by fire in 1530. Subsequent owners reconstructed the castle and got rid of the surrounding wall, the moat and the drawbridge. What one sees nowadays dates mostly from the 18th century. The front has two wings, which are at a right angle to each other. To the left wing are attached two round towers, to the right one a heavier square tower. There is one more square tower at the backside. At the center of the front is a row of arcades on the ground floor. Looking at the castle from the south, one can see that it stands on a terrace, supported by a retaining wall.
