Dam High !
Aug 2019 • Family
My partner and my two children (16/12) all did the zip line . I just watched and we paid 75chf.
They tell me the zip line was great (700m long). The staff were helpful and friendly. It wasn't that busy which was nice .
The dam is hugely impressive and the lake too. We didn't do the tour of the dam as we were told we wouldn't have time but I think we would. Well worth a visit if in the area.

Size matters!
Jul 2019 • Couples
If you are in love with big structures and concrete as well as lakes, mountains and hiking here is the place for you. Even though no James Bond films were made here, it is such a great sight. The scale is overwhelming and it was not at all crowded. The drive to the dam is spectacular too.

Amazing day of hiking
Aug 2018
A must ´go-to´ place and coupled with a hike, your day will be perfect. it is one of my most memorable hikes in Switzerland. Ibex spotted, check! Chamois spotted, check! Never seen before mountain flowers, check!
Am definitely going back again.

Excellent visit inside the workings of the da
Aug 2018 • Couples
We had a young, friendly, helpful guide to show us around the inner workings of this magnificent effort high up in the Swiss mountaing. Fantastic feat of engineering bearing in mind the ground work was started in 1945, and took almost 20 years to complete. Thank you Marine, you deserved your tip! It's cold inside, so wear warm clothing

impressive
Aug 2018 • Couples
I went for the visit inside the dam, it was pretty impressive! the guide was very cool (he spoke french, I don't know if there is a guide that speaks english).

we aware, ITS VERY COLD INSIDE!! also, it's not open the whole year, so you should check before you go! its qujite high up the mountain so it can be icy and windy.

there is a free supplementary excibition that explains more or less how it was done, etc. At the top of the dam, there are also some billboards with some explanations (french, german and english)

it is a very impressive construction and it is located in a breathtaking place. Absolutely worth the trip, and you should also hike around a bit! behind the dam, it is sooo beautiful!!

the only down side is that the last bus is quite early, so you shuld try to go by car or know that you might have to either spend the night at the hotel (which is at the bottom of the dam) or walk down 1000 mt.

Tallest gravity dam in the world - and a great place to hike!
Aug 2017 • Family
Take the cable car to the top, hike along the dam and spot some marmots or go for a more ambitious hike to the Cabane des Dix (3h30 one way) or to the Cabane Pra-Fleury (2h). Back at the bottom of the dam, visit the dam museum or go for a visit inside the dam galleries.

Jaw dropping, but you need a clear day
Aug 2017 • Friends
This is definitely worth a visit, the tallest gravity dam ever built in the world. A 40 minute drive up from Sion through the most delightful valley, the scale of the dam wall when you reach the top is mind boggling and the views from its top north over the Bernese Oberland are stunning. You need a clear day otherwise it is a wasted journey, so definitely not a good idea for a wet day. There is a free car park at the base of the dam and, mid June to mid September, a small cable car runs up and down (takes 10 people, runs every 10 minutes or more frequently when busy, 7 SwFr single, 10 SwFr return, cash only, but note it stops for lunch 12.15-13.15). Alternatively, there is a good zig-zag path up, takes about 30 minutes, which is obviously free. There is a 4 hour walk round the Ibex trail at the top, which I did not attempt. Small cafe at the top and a larger cafe at the base and an information pavilion which you pay to enter. Apparently, tours of the dam are available, including the workings inside the dam wall. Theytaz excursion buses run from Sion station, which means it can get busy. A candidate for man made wonders of the world short list. When you stand on top of the dam wall, not only is the scale awesome but you ask yourself what the Swiss must have been smoking at the time they decided to build it (construction began in 1951).

Interesting
Aug 2017 • Family
The day we visited was unfortunately very rainy and cloudy, with extremely limited visibility. However, we decided to visit anyway. The cable car to take you up was ok - although buying a ticket wasn't straightforward as they don't accept cards or euros and sent us to the nearby hotel to change some money.

The dam itself is very interesting, and explained by the information boards. We couldn't actually see much of the lake but got a good idea of the size of the dam by walking along the top.

A good place to visit if you're passing. I suspect that the queues might be very long in good weather so allow 2-3 hours for your visit.
