Came here in the fall with several young children who loved the active learning; making candles, sitting in one room school house chairs and using slates as children did decades ago, etc. etc. VERY much worth the visit. We recommend coming on a day where they will be volunteers doing this like helping children make candles, etc. Modest prices, many... More

There is lots to learn there about the Dakota people and the Gibbs family that settled on the land. You view 2 types of Dakota housing and the 2 houses the Gibbs family had (the sod house and... Wonderful local history; great staff and volunteers who are very knowledgeable and informative and who guage well the age of their audience when talking about various exhibits.

I'll start by saying our tour guide was very knowledgeable. He had a lot of information to share and for those visiting Minnesota for the first time, it was very interesting to hear about early settlers in Minnesota. The tour guide also took into consideration our interests and could stay as long as we liked in each of the buildings.... More

It was a nice family day. A place to bring the kids. A place that on the ride home was a common topic discussed during the ride. Had communication going on with the kids and that a plus anytime.

Gibbs Farm shows the life many of our ancestors went through when they first arrived in Minnesota. The farm is right in town and is very geared to children. A great place to bring the kids.

It's a nice place to visit once, but I won't be going back. Some interesting facts from the good ole days, but not much else.

Set in a beautifully restored prairie landscape, Gibbs Farm transports you back to life in the 1800s in Minnesota. Jane Gibbs went to school with Dakota children. Later, Jane and Heman Gibbs started life on their farm living in a small soddy. Life in the house, the schoolhouse, and a Dakota camp are brought to life during the many special... More
