The best word to describe this place is ‘pristine’. From the visitor centre to the trails the refuge is well maintained and a wonderful place to visit. We came here on our trip through the region and were really impressed. The recently refurbished visitor centre is immaculate and the staff were friendly and informative. The Wildlife Drive is an interesting... More

If you want to get away from crowds and need solitude - this is your place. A Wildlife refuge a bit off the beaten path. Stop at one info boards at the entrances to get a map & brochure. We were there 2 hours and saw only 1 other car. It did feel a bit like we were in the... More

The interpretation center is one of the nicest I've ever seen and it's been redone to be Eco-friendly. The gift shop has a great selection of books about flora and fauna of the area as well as other titles. All proceeds go to suppor the refuge. We went mid-day which is one of the worst times to visit wildlife centers.... More

We went around the Blackbird Auto Tour Route twice and we stopped for brief hikes and saw Bald Eagles, swans, dragonflies and early Fall color in the trees. We spent over 4 hours here.

the auto tour was lovley and we were able to spot an eagle from the scopes! :) We saw numerous swans swimming on one of the many lakes! Birds upon birds of various species were fun to see! Walked on a 2 mile trail and saw lots of huge toads, frogs, mushrooms (orange), small gardener snakes! Turkey vultures swarmed over... More

I drive through Tamarac almost every weekday on my way home from work. I do some hiking and nature loving on my way home. All the trails are marked well and it isn't crowded so I like the peace and quiet.
