About
Red Wing's turn-of-the-century Sheldon Theatre showcases the best in arts and entertainment from Minnesota's heartland and beyond. It operates year-round, presenting a broad range of touring events including music, theatre, dance, comedy, films, lectures and more. The Sheldon also produces its own shows starring local artists and performing arts groups. Built in 1904 with funds from local businessman T.B. Sheldon, The Sheldon is the country's first city-owned theatre. In 1986 it was gloriously restored to its original grandeur. Described as a "glittering jewel box," it charms performers and audiences alike. Our Mission: Red Wing's historic Sheldon Theatre of Performing Arts is committed to showcasing the best arts and entertainment for the enjoyment, education, and enlightenment of the community and its visitors.

My husband and I saw 7 bridges not at this event but at an event down in Sea Isle city. NJ.
There lead guitarist is truly amazing. Their instrumentation and music arrangements are well executed.

I've also seen an eagles tribute band called "Desert Highway" and their vocals are very authentic and you almost think your listening to the real Eagles.

Wow- super excited to have found this theatre! It was like being in Minneapolis without the drive! The theatre is sooo beautiful and cozy!
We saw Leo Kote and the sound was amazing! I did not feel crowded and loved not having to pay for parking.
Looks like the line up is great and we look forward to attending more events in the future!

Beautiful restored theater in heart of downtown Red Wing! Saw Paula Poundstone there last night - tickets were cheaper than going to see her in Minneapolis and we were in the second row because there were more tickets available. Seats from second row were good - didn't have to crane neck looking up. Can't comment on seats in the balcony, although she conversed with people up there during the show, so they can't be too far back! Ushers were very sweet. Refreshments were also pretty cheap compared to theaters in the cities! An enjoyable evening.

This theatre is so beautiful! If has the old red velvet chairs and painting on the walls and ceiling. When you see a performance here you special. Do take a tour and see the everything or walk round before or after the performance.

It's not particularly attractive from the outside, but this jewel-box theatre is beautiful on the inside with ornate decorative painting. It's apparently the oldest theatre in Minnesota and the first municipal theatre. The acoustics are good and they have a great group of community volunteer ushers who quite helpful.

We have been here a number of times. This time we saw Joseph & his Amazing Technicolor Dream coat. The theater is truly gorgeous. While the production was excellent, just seeing the theater is worth your trouble.

We visited during "off season" for the theatre but was able to walk through and admire the fine workmanship of this grand old building. A brochure was available to read some history of the Sheldon Theatre. I would like to visit sometime when they were having an event there! Close to downtown and free to enter.

Do take a tour of this delightful old building, or if you are in town when a show is on do go. The building itself is so worth a visit, full of history and charm.

The Sheldon is a gorgeous historic theater, beautifully restored and totally charming (as is just about everything in Red Wing). They have entertainment throughout the year, but if you get a chance, go to the Red Wing High School musical held there every spring. We saw "HMS Pinafore," and the kids did an awesome job.

Thank you Donna! We are so glad you enjoyed your time at the Sheldon Theatre. And we agree, the Red Wing High School student put on a great musical every year.

Gorgeous historic theatre in the heart of downtown Red Wing. We took in a performance of "Into the Woods" by the local theater company, Phoenix Community Theatre. We were blown away by the caliber of talent and the production values - it was every bit as good as shows you see at the State or Orpheum Theatres in Minneapolis - would definitely recommend.
