We were at the Orpheum Theatre to see My Fair Lady. It was a fantastic show! The theatre is attractive and the seats are comfortable. There is a parking garage right across the street which is very convenient. We were in the second balcony but our sight lines were good and we had no complaints. One word of caution - there is no restroom on the second balcony level, so use the restroom before you walk up there or be prepared to walk back down.
We were disappointed at how long it took to get in... Not sure why, but we arrived about 20 minutes before showtime and there were lines stretching out the front and side entrances. By the time we got through the line, through security and up to our seats (without stopping at the bathroom) it was literally show time.

Some issues here but overall, an excellent venue for watching theater in the Twin Cities. Beautiful theater with classy interior. Good viewing from the front half of the main level or lower section of the balcony (but not the first row where the railing will block your view). Broadway on Hennepin series brings all the big traveling Broadway productions to town including Hamilton, Moulin Rouge, Wicked, Pretty Woman, etc. Located centrally in downtown Minneapolis on Hennepin Ave with plenty of parking lots nearby. It is true there isn't much leg room in the seats but those of us under 5' 10'' don't mind. Line for drinks can get long at intermission but you can wisely preorder your intermission drinks and they will be waiting for you. Also beware of the line for the ladies' room which can stretch all the way across the room and down the stairs.

Saw Wicked in July 2022. Nearly front row, which is great for seats; not great for bathrooms. 15 minutes intermission is not enough time to get through the cramped halls, use those tiny bathrooms, and then navigate back to your seat again.
I get that I’m going to be charged a premium for the incredibly limited beverage bar, but the addition of a mandatory 18% tip? No thank you.

Just attended the Ron White farewell tour show, April 30, 2022. We are big Ron White fans and we were truly looking forward to a great show. We sat in the balcony section and the sound system was the worst that we have ever experienced. The voices of both performers were loud and garbled to the point that they were impossible to understand. Others that were seated near us voiced exactly the same sentiments. We have attended many shows at the Orpheum, in the past, but never in the balcony. The worst show experience ever. A complete waste of time and a huge disappointment.

The good thing is that the play started on time. However about 20 minutes into the show approximately 70 people came in looking for their seats with their camera flashlights on. maybe it’s because of the pandemic or maybe people just never learned theater protocols, but at least seven times the same people in our aisle got up and headed out or returned disrupting people seated. WFT this isn’t a football stadium. Our seats have no leg room and this inconvenience of getting up is bothersome. Our inconvenience was not as bad as the people, whom we met during intermission that had a very intoxicated man spill a 3/4 glass of wine on them. It’s upsetting that we spend hundreds of dollars to watch a very good show in such an unruly place. So to say this my last time spending my hard earned cash in this place. The lack of leg room and seats on the main floor, which I would now consider partial view because of the traffic, makes it questionable whether to ever return. I would rather spend money in smaller houses and see good shows. Football stadiums have more class.

Saw the touring version of ‘Tina’ at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Minneapolis. It is an old theatre that could use some updating but overall the acoustics were pretty good. My tip is to not sit in the Orchestra but in the first balcony, as low as possible, and you get great views of the show.

This is a beautiful old theater, but be aware that the balcony seats have zero leg room. If you are anywhere close to 6-ft tall your feet will be right up against the seat in front of you while the seat you are sitting in is crushing the back of your calves. Understandable given the age of the theater. Not sure if the main floor seats are any better or not.

We attended the Crosby Stills, and Nash concert last night.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the music, I was HORRIBLY disappointed in our seats at the Orpheum. We were in BOX R, row 200, seats 4-5. It used to be said that there was not a bad seat in the house, that is not true anymore.
The seats would have been adequate - except for a column of speakers hung from the ceiling directly in front of us! I could see, maybe 10% of the stage. The person to my right saw even less.
If someone had only raised the speakers 5 feet, it would have made all the difference in the world to me and had minimal impact on the acoustics.
I'll never sit there again... and am hopping mad that I missed most of a great concert. Please have someone correct this very fixable problem.

We attended the April 24 performance of Jersey Boys, our all time favorite Broadway Show. We had seats 3 and 4, Row A. Should have been great seats. But when they open up the Pit, the people in the second row of the Pit block the view of Row A. I could barely view half the stage and none of the center stage. It was a total disaster; and we had paid a premium for our seats. The Orpheum should take a short drive to The Old Log Theater and see how thoughtful theater owners can show care for their patrons. mkabris

Old theatres like this one are beautiful and we had a chance to go there and see a great play recently. The problem is there is no way to enjoy the experience if the seat you are in is incredibly uncomfortable. If a person is over five feet tall they will not fit in the seats and knees are crammed up against the hard metal seats directly in front of you. The theatre is in an extreme need of a renovation or at least sacraficing some of the number of seats they want to afford their guests a less pain while attending the theatre.

Would it be okay to drop a 13 and 14 year-old off at a show (Beetlejuice)? My daughter would like to see it with a friend, and I'd be willing to skip the show myself and save buying a third ticket. I would walk them to the door. Thanks.

Hi, my wife and daughter are going to the Orpheum. My daughter is a bigger gal, wife is very worried she will not fit in the seats. What if she does not? Any suggestions??
Written May 4, 2023
I fit in the seat. I am 6’3” and 285#. The problem I had was the leg room.

There is definitely a fair amount of homeless and other dodgy characters roaming around on Hennepin Ave but if you are leaving with the crowd after the show, you should have no issues. We and many others walked the 3 blocks from the theater to our parking ramp between 8th and 7th without any concern.

What is the neighborhood around the theater like? Is it a safe area at night?
Written July 19, 2019
Hi,
Yes it's safe, you would want to take any precautions that you would take in your own town here. Very well lit and lots of people around the theater. If you come early before a show, take in the great restaurants and sights around downtown. I hear people say all the time we have one of the cleanest around. Hope that helps.

I think you should contact The Orpheum directly. Sometimes the seating charts on websites will indicate what the obstructions are (like a post for example), so if you can't find it on the Orpheum's website, a call while the box office is open would be a good idea.

Does anyone know if the floor seating at the Orpheum in Minneapolis is tiered or elevated one row behind the next? Or are the seats flat so it’s difficult to see over the folks in front of you especially if they are tall? I’ve only sat in the balcony there. Thank you!
Written October 9, 2018
Slightly tiered but much better seats than the balcony.

I would like to know why the seats Box R 204 7-8 are obstructed view? I have Hamilton tickets and I am really worried.
Written June 24, 2018
There is a brass railing thingy but if you're over 5 feet tall I don't see it as an obstruction. For concerts I know they may hang speakers in those corners and it's definitely an obstruction then. I went to a comedy show and there were no obstructions. I would call to verify this.
Written July 12, 2018
It depends which section you are in, since there are four row HH in the building. If you are looking at tickets for Phantom, yes, the balcony obstructs the top half of the stage. Which I personally believe is poor planning on the production side to not create an adjustable show for each theatre they tour, the way Wicked does.
