Our family of six with children/young adults ranging in age from 20 to 13 all thoroughly enjoyed The Scandinavian Christmas Concert at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. Conductor Sarah Hicks was excellent, Minnesota Boys Choir and Authentic Scandinavian Dance to name a few made this event magical. Truly felt the Christmas Spirit envelop us. It's our new family tradition and look forward to coming back next year. Bravo.

My husband and I finally had a chance to see and hear a Minnesota Orchestra concert, since Orchestra Hall recently re-opened after their remodeling project. We took in a special Strauss concert on October 17th, which had musicians in chamber groups to the full orchestra. As usual, the music was presented with much flair and expertise. We believe that Osmo Vanska is an excellent conductor, and we have always enjoyed attending the Minnesota Orchestra concerts. And when we left the concert hall, we were so surprised to find the Jack Brass Band playing in the foyer area. These musicians were truly entertaining and presented very enjoyable music. What a fun group!

The Minnesota Symphony up until the end of the 2011-12 season a world class orchestra. It is about 50 years old. The Music Director, Vanska, has an international reputation for excellence. The Orchestra has not played a not this season because it has been locked out by the Board. Approximately 20 key players have already left for greener fields......the issue is supposedly money, although Orchestra Hall is being renovated for 10s of Millions of dollars. To put it succinctly, the Minnesota Orchestra is being destroyed..........taken apart at the seams.........and if there is a replacement orchestra sometime day in the future, it will be made up of inexperienced players looking for a beginning job. I world class city like Minneapolis deserves a word class cultural attraction.

The musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra have been locked out for nearly a year. (They never were on strike.) For some reason, this board and management has shifted their stewardship from sustaining the actual orchestra...to sustaining the glitzy, renovated Orchestra Hall. They complained that the musicians' salaries comprise a huge chunk of the budget, and regard these fine artists (some of the finest in the country) as replaceable.
They should be ashamed of what they've done, what they're doing, who they've lost.
And MOA is now rightfully referred to as Minnesota Orchestra HALL Association.
If there's anything left after this season...go hear them. But don't donate a dime till the lockout is ended.

We were present for Osmo Vänskä's return to the podium and it was a breathtaking experience. Staff was more than helpful, audience was respectful (but we need more young people representing the concertgoers!) and the sound was to die for. If you can make it to ANY performance here, jump at the chance!

An orchestra represents the best of a city. Sports teams can go through years of doldrums but a well supported orchestra can deliver excellence in a way that makes a difference in your life. Right now the Minnesota Orchestra is going through a labor dispute AND a hall upgrade. When they return, and they certainly will, Minneapolis will once again boast of one of the great orchestras in the country. The group is a MUST-HEAR.

This orchestra has its own great sound. If they are playing a Beethoven symphony, don't miss it. No one plays Beethoven better.

Wow, this orchestra is absolutely amazing - among the 10 best in the US. If you are in Minneapolis on a night they are playing, you're hurting yourself if you don't go, no matter what the program is. The summer Sommerfest concerts are a blast, the plaza outside the hall is set up like a beer garden and it's wonderful on a nice day. And don't even get me started about the architecture of the hall - especially the mind-blowing movable giant cubes that cascade down the ceiling to the wall behind the orchestra. The cubes can be moved to "tune" the hall, so that the acoustics are always perfect. This it the #1 great thing to do in Minneapolis!

The Minnesota Orchestra is truly world class, and their conductor Osmo Vanska is one of the most interesting interpreters on the scene today. Not to be missed!
