Fun concert with strange repertoire. Very risky avant garde piece which seemed to bring in some younger folks. Amazing french horn solo in the second movement of the Fifth Symphony. The orchestra was much more engaged in the second half of the concert.

We visited the Twin Cities recently. Ended up picking up some general admission tix to the MN Orchestra. My goodness, the performance was exhilarating & deeply satisfying. Absolutely stunning sound, an amazing group of musicians performing at such a high level, and a wonderful grounds. They have free lockers for coats or bags. Their program gave a lot of great info. Saw the best composer Elim Chan, exactly what I think a conductor should be. It was fantastic, highly recommend!

I have attended the MN Orchestra over the years, in the old building and now the new. The event we attended was very similar to the Pixar films and music a few years ago. The orchestra plays the composed music from the film and presents the actual film on a large screen in the background of the orchestra. I found this recent event (Star Trek - 2009) film, well performed and enjoyed having the subtitles and movie dialogue in sync with the film. Kudos to the musicians!

Two areas for improvement: balcony level, have a men's room put in. Very strange they only have two men's rooms on first floor. If you pre-order a drink online, the bartender we had was a total jerk, over poured my beer from a bottle into a plastic cup, guess because I wasn't paying in cash he presumed I wouldn't give him a tip. Well for obvious reasons I didn't.

Finally, be aware of lots pretentiousness types of people when you attend an event here, I deal with it, but some people need to get over themselves.

The Minnesota Symphony up until the end of the 2011-12 season a world class orchestra. It is about 50 years old. The Music Director, Vanska, has an international reputation for excellence. The Orchestra has not played a not this season because it has been locked out by the Board. Approximately 20 key players have already left for greener fields......the issue is supposedly money, although Orchestra Hall is being renovated for 10s of Millions of dollars. To put it succinctly, the Minnesota Orchestra is being destroyed..........taken apart at the seams.........and if there is a replacement orchestra sometime day in the future, it will be made up of inexperienced players looking for a beginning job. I world class city like Minneapolis deserves a word class cultural attraction.

The musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra have been locked out for nearly a year. (They never were on strike.) For some reason, this board and management has shifted their stewardship from sustaining the actual orchestra...to sustaining the glitzy, renovated Orchestra Hall. They complained that the musicians' salaries comprise a huge chunk of the budget, and regard these fine artists (some of the finest in the country) as replaceable.
They should be ashamed of what they've done, what they're doing, who they've lost.
And MOA is now rightfully referred to as Minnesota Orchestra HALL Association.
If there's anything left after this season...go hear them. But don't donate a dime till the lockout is ended.

Each and every time I visit the Minnesota Orchestra I tell myself I need to come here more. We just went to see Ben Folds with the Minnesota Orchestra and it was unbelievable. The acoustics in this place are so incredible that once during the performance Ben asked the audience to sing and it nearly got a standing ovation from the orchestra. Each and every show here is better than the last and it is an absolute gem in this city. If you get a chance to see this local treasure you will not be disappointed. Also, don't worry about where your seat is. There isn't a bad seat in the house and I say that from the far far back.

Our family of six with children/young adults ranging in age from 20 to 13 all thoroughly enjoyed The Scandinavian Christmas Concert at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. Conductor Sarah Hicks was excellent, Minnesota Boys Choir and Authentic Scandinavian Dance to name a few made this event magical. Truly felt the Christmas Spirit envelop us. It's our new family tradition and look forward to coming back next year. Bravo.

My husband and I finally had a chance to see and hear a Minnesota Orchestra concert, since Orchestra Hall recently re-opened after their remodeling project. We took in a special Strauss concert on October 17th, which had musicians in chamber groups to the full orchestra. As usual, the music was presented with much flair and expertise. We believe that Osmo Vanska is an excellent conductor, and we have always enjoyed attending the Minnesota Orchestra concerts. And when we left the concert hall, we were so surprised to find the Jack Brass Band playing in the foyer area. These musicians were truly entertaining and presented very enjoyable music. What a fun group!

We were present for Osmo Vänskä's return to the podium and it was a breathtaking experience. Staff was more than helpful, audience was respectful (but we need more young people representing the concertgoers!) and the sound was to die for. If you can make it to ANY performance here, jump at the chance!
