THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance,...

THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance, production, education and professional training, known for its dynamic productions of classic and contemporary plays. Open to the public year-round, this award-winning cultural destination houses three theaters, dramatic public spaces and distinctive dining.

Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the Guthrie is located in the historic Mill District of Downtown Minneapolis and features a 175-foot cantilever bridge which overlooks the Mississippi River. When it opened in 2006 Time magazine called the building "a 21st century dream factory."

Visit the Guthrie to see a show, grab a cup of coffee and explore the building, shop at the Guthrie Store, or to simply take in the extraordinary riverfront views. Backstage tours are Friday and Saturday mornings.

WE were in Minneapolis for just a short visit and spent a delightful evening at The Guthrie. We saw Sense and Sensibility and loved it. Written by a woman, play adapted by a woman and directed by a woman. Perfect combination. Loved the revolving stage and the short walk out to view St. Paul after the play. Nice selection of... More

I really wasn't up for the drive--and associated parking conundrums--involved in the fifteen minute journey to Downtown Minneapolis (from the relative tranquility of the "Nordeast Quadrant Arts District" of The Metroplex) in order to visit Izzy's Ice Cream Parlor. Yet, there we were, adjacent to Gold Medal Park. While I avoided the trendy, hipster, line at Izzy's, just down the... More

Just returned from seeing Sense and Sensibility at the Guthrie Theater and was overwhelmed by the show! Great acting, direction, set, and lighting! The theater is on the waterfront, on the north side of downtown, and the views over the Mississippi are stunning! We have been here multiple times over the years and never been disappointed. There is a rush... More

I live in New Jersey - so I've been to countless plays/musicals in NYC (Broadway, Off Broadway, LIncoln Center, etc.) The quality here (direction, acting, production values) is equal to the best NYC has to offer. Add to that a architecturally interesting new building overlooking the Old Mill section and the river. We happen to have a lightning storm occurring... More

We just walked in for a tour. We didn't see a show. They will allow you to tour the building. There is an observation balcony upstairs with a great view of St. Anthony Falls. The building is lovely inside. It is worth the 30 minutes or so to explore.

We had a great evening at the Guthrie theater. Not only is the building a destination in itself with its outdoor endless bridge, but the performance of South Pacific was great. The stage was very unusual, but we enjoyed how close the actors were to the audience. The performance was wonderful. Intermission was one of the easiest and most enjoyable... More

My wife and I saw South Pacific a couple of weeks ago and were blown away! The venue is superb and the production is just as superb. I've never been disappointed with one of their shows. Looking forward to the next one!

This theater is an awesome facility that presents classic as well as contemporary theater productions. I recently attended their production of Rodger's and Hammerstein's "South Pacific". I have attended the Guthrie for many plays as well as using it's amazing cantilever bridge so that visitors to Minneapolis can view the spectacular Mississippi River and Saint Anthony Falls. Last year I... More

Been regular members for many years. Wonderful, creative, engaging productions. Amazing set designing, lighting, sound, acting. The thrust stage in the new theatre offers so much flexibility for staging and the Guthrie crew uses all of it. The pool of talent the Guthrie can draw upon is very deep including young children to older adults. Just saw Sense and Sensibilities.... More
