THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance,...

THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance, production, education and professional training, known for its dynamic productions of classic and contemporary plays. Open to the public year-round, this award-winning cultural destination houses three theaters, dramatic public spaces and distinctive dining.

Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the Guthrie is located in the historic Mill District of Downtown Minneapolis and features a 175-foot cantilever bridge which overlooks the Mississippi River. When it opened in 2006 Time magazine called the building "a 21st century dream factory."

Visit the Guthrie to see a show, grab a cup of coffee and explore the building, shop at the Guthrie Store, or to simply take in the extraordinary riverfront views. Backstage tours are Friday and Saturday mornings.

The Guthrie has been around for over 60 years, with such artists as Hume Cronyn, George Grizzard, Jessica Tandy and Rita Gam performing in memorable productions. It is now housed in a new building. They have always presented quality productions, and our experience with DISGRACED in one of their now three houses was a fine example. If you love top... More

We took a group of 60 people to catch dinner in the outstanding restaurant on the ground floor followed by a showing of "South Pacific" afterwards in the theater on the evening before we held a business meeting. The food and production were outstanding, and set the pace for a wonderful and productive meeting the ensuing week. This venue is... More

Wonderful place to entertain business clients giving them a taste of Minneapolis with choices usually including something more conservative. Thank you Guthrie for all the years of representing Minneapolis in such a fine way.

This was absolutely the best musical I have seen in a long time. Better than the movie!! The Guthrie has easy parking, food is close by, delicious food and drinks can be taken into theater.

We recently saw South Pacific, and during the evening also took the opportunity to walk out on the Endless Bridge and the Dowling Center on 9th floor. The space is stunningly beautiful, and the productions are outstanding.

The Guthrie Theater is one of the finest regional theaters in the U.S. Year after year they offer a wide variety of theater experiences. They also have a fine outreach program to help build an audience for live theater in the future. It's always a pleasant experience to attend a play there and to either eat at the restaurant there... We have season tickets, which included seeing the production "Disgraced." Powerful and provocative, it left us in a reflective frame of mind, looking more deeply at the dynamics of racism and sexism. Not fare for the younger members of the family, but an important piece of theater for adults.

We purchased tickets for preview week of "South Pacific" and had a discount through my daughter's work employee program, so the tickets were very affordable. This venue is lovely, with patio that looks out over the river. This production was on the WURTELE THRUST STAGE, which honestly there would not be one bad seat in this theater! My daughter is... Fantastic! Every play we have ever been to at the Gutheie has been wonderful!we plan on going again in Oct. for my husbands birthday. They do have small bars set up with snacks and beverages during intermissions. If you like theater, the Guyhrie is a must when in Minneapolis.

While in town visiting relatives. We stopped here after walking the stone bridge and viewing the river & water falls. The Theater has what is called the bridge to no were. It is a viewing platform that overlooks the river. Great view! And it's free!
