Excellent restaurants such as Barbette, Lake & Irving and Stellas. Beautiful lakes for walking and generous bike paths.
However there are aspects that could be improved. For example the traffic on Lake street and on Hennepin involves speeding cars, deep potholes and generally poor city planning. Cars still rule in Minneapolis. There are deep historical and structural issues that will take decades to change such as the lack of pedestrian traffic, enormous seemingly empty houses. Very few children in evidence. The lake beaches are strangely deserted as are pedestrians walking on Lake street . People mostly drive to venues since there is little density.
This is not a truly urban environment.

Nice restaurants with very little street life. Nice walkability to Lake Maka Ska. Stay away in the winter if possible. Minneapolis has a high percentage of cloudy days. Dreary muddy lawns and landscaping , dreadful stucco cottages punctuated by spectacular high end houses. Definitely a car culture with little pockets of walkable interactive city life.
Fear and apprehension still surrounds this area so near the Floyd murder coupled with the pandemic closures.
Uptown is one of the walkable areas of Minneapolis near the lakes area. This neighbourhood will probably become more robust and dynamic with time despite the gloomy weather and troubled millennial population.

We went on a Thursday afternoon and it was not busy. Some of the food stalls were closed. There were some interesting places but it wasn't really worth visiting as tourists. We found free parking on the street. We probably won't try to go back.

Uptown is packed with amazing places, Calhoun Square. Great restaurants, avant guard theatres, a branch library, Papersource, and Bobby Bead! Grocery stores, and only a few blocks from part of the chain of Mpls. lakes. It overflows with fun exciting, interesting and creative places. And great movie theatres too.

Uptown is an odd mix of hipsters, rural MN people gawking as if they are tourists, and also stuck up late 20s early 30s professionals. I hated living here. Too much traffic and hype and not much to offer for it. Shopping here is expensive unless you go to Heartbreaker store which I never did. A few bars that I never wanted to go to.

The Uptown areas is a popular hang-out spot in Minneapolis. It's almost always over-crowded and driving and finding parking around there is a nightmare. Sadly, over the last few years it's become a playground for Yuppies and suburbanites. It's a pity that such a part of the town has become nothing else but a jock ground zero of the Twin Cities. Too many sports bars, overpriced greasy food, not-quite-so ethnic restaurants, funky cousine and mediocre shopping.

Just FYI - this photo is taken on the Nicollet Mall, which is downtown, not Uptown. I recommend both locations - just thought someone looking for this fountain would be very frustrated if looking in Uptown :)

You can find just about anything in this area, from high-end boutiques to quirky little bead shops. There are many places to eat in the area, but Famous Dave's in Calhoun Square is amazing - nothing like their take-out restaurants. They have live music most nights. Also check out Chino Latino or Stella's Fish Cafe for dinner.

I love the diversity of the neighborhood, and the fact that you can walk or ride your bike to almost everything you need (I'm 73). I can't keep up with the new restaurants, I can think of three that have opened in the last six months. Those are added to probably over 40 that were here already. We've lived here for 8 years and they will carry us out!

This is one of the quirkey areas of Minneapolis. The shops are really unusual and fun to go though. Many different good quality restaurants. The clientel changes with the night.
