This place was incredible. We came here as a pseudo-bachelor party as it was a night out before the groom's big day. It came recommended by one of the family members and so we checked it out and found out it was double token night (Thursday). Upon walking in, it was dark, and you were met right at the entrance by skee-ball! We started at the bar grabbing a few drinks and some tokens to play on the dozens of old arcade games or the dozen or so pinball tables. As a pinball junkie, I started on the pinball tables. I am familiar with many of the different tables that they have which range from Stern and Bally new tables to some of the previous generation Williams tables (nothing that I would consider a classic such as Funhouse, but they did have Medieval Madness and that's one of my FAVORITES)!!! The tables were impeccably maintained. Every moving part; every extra flipper, every detail on these tables were active and made the playing so much more enjoyable. The fact that each game only cost 1 token was also a huge surprise to me in a good way. The bartenders were friendly and quick with three of them staffing a large and very busy bar. The large screen with the rotating beer list (quite extensive I'd like to add) also helped in the dark environment.

They've really done this place right and I am adding it to my list of places that I'd happily go back to when I visit the cities again! Highly recommend you check it out!

As a child of the 70s/80s, I have fond memories of going down to the local arcade with a pocketful of quarters. As a result, this is one of my favorite places. With the exception of a couple of new multiplayer "super games" (like Killer Queen) everything is one token, and one token = 25 cents (or less, on promo days). Believe the many good reviews. Ignore the "no stars" naysayers - the beer list is impressive, the drinks are perfectly fine, the machines rarely "eat" your tokens. And if they do, the great staff will offer a prompt refund. Also, the neighborhood is just fine, right on the border between primarily biz and primarily residential Uptown / Lyn-Lake. Be responsible and stay alert as you would in any urban setting.

I took my husband here as a fun little surprise and it definitely did not disappoint. Up-Down combines one of our favorite activities from our childhood (video games) with a favorite pastime of our adult lives (drinking good craft beer) and wraps them up into a 2-story setting, albeit a crowded one. There were so many great vintage arcade games and awesome craft beer selections there that I had a hard time getting him to leave. Big recommendation for kids at heart.

I've stopped at arcade bars across the country and this is one of my favorites. It's basically got everything you could want in one. 90's themed wall paper and tv shows playing, arcade classics, a decent pinball collection, skeeball, console games on projectors, floor shuffleboard upstairs and a second rooftop bar. It was a bit busy for a weekday, but I understand why. It's a fine place to be.
Also, if you want some good cheese curds before 11pm, a few door down is The Blue Door. They make some good ones.

In town for business with some co-workers.... my.... god. This is my new spot when i come down from Fargo! Reasonable beer prices, great service, and every game i could want to play.... minus a few! There are a few that we're sticky, probably due to drunk people spilling beer (Moonwalker, NBA Jam Turtles in Time), but i can't say enough good things about this place! 5 bucks will let you play forever. We beat the Simpson's game and still played for ages between the 5 of us. Sweet outdoors areas upstairs and downstairs. Hockey dome, pinball, the list goes on and on. I'm 36 and i didnt want to leave! My hats off to this establishment. Wow. I can't believe people could work here Ann's not get envious of all the fun everyone is having! Btw... there are N64 games (mariokart) upstairs on big screen tvs for free!

Stopped in around 5pm on a Friday night. The pizza slices were huge! We ate one slice each and the mac and cheese pizza was excellent. Tons of old arcade games to play and the timing we were there meant a decent number of people, but still plenty of games without having to wait. The main downfall was the traffic trying to get here, but it's very good once you arrive.

Wish I had something nice to say about this place, but I don't.  Watered down drinks, too many machines that either are out of order or 'eat' your tokens, and an unsafe neighborhood.  It's so bad that the place hires two uniformed officers to park outside just to watch this place, even on a Sunday night. They're not even allowed to respond to anything as close as a half block away. Had we realized that before we went it, we'd have taken the hint and passed. Suggest you do the same.

If you're only in the Uptown area for one night, don't miss this place! The vibe is fresh, the tap list is massive, and the pizza is tasty! On a weekend, the bar can feel a bit overcrowded, but that's nothing short of a testament to how well-known this place is for being a good time.

They have a wide selection of arcade cabinets (predominantly from the 80's and 90's); enough to have something for almost everybody. Their machines catch a ton of use, so some of the sticks are less responsive than you'd like. It won't stop you from having fun, but it might stop you from beating that high score.

Some newer games or better maintenance would bump this review up to five stars, no question.
