About
The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is closed for renovation, and will reopen in June 2017. One of the crown jewels of the city’s park system, the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden unites two of Minnesota’s most cherished resources—its greenspace and its cultural life. A partnership with the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board, the Garden is a top destination for tourists to enjoy art like the iconic Spoonbridge and Cherry in an outdoor park setting.

- Douglas4 contributionsGreat strolling! If you've never been, the Sculpture Garden is a nice place to stroll after you've been to Loring Park or the art museum across the street. Some wonderful sculptures and nice views of the cityscape in the background. Highly recommended if you visit Minneapolis.Visited November 2022Written February 5, 2023
- NorthernGCThunder Bay, Canada120 contributionsGreat way to spend an hour or so outsideWe visited with our 12 and 14 year olds. While not exactly their cup of tea, they were entertained for about an hour. The parents however thoroughly enjoyed this park! Really cool sculptures, the grounds are beautiful and there’s covered picnic tables for a picnic. The bathroom were also very clean for a public park! Parking is $4 flat fee unless you can find a spot on the street.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 19, 2023
- NemoTravelerAarhus, Denmark682 contributionsArt CenterThe Sculpture Garden is part of the Walker Art Center and is located close to downtown Minneapolis. The garden is open from 6 in the morning to midnight every day and admission is free. Paid parking is available nearby. A number of artworks are on show and it is possible to download an app with a free guide. The area is quite nice and worth a visit.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 26, 2023
- Stay799816Aurora, Illinois1 contributionMake time to visit this fantastic gardenThis garden was a great experience especially on a sunny day. Parking in from of so called main entrance and there was plenty of spaces. Food was scarce but close to restaurants about a half mile walk over the bridge to another park. Sculptures were great , just take your time reading about themVisited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 28, 2023
- SnowyShastaPortland, Oregon2,119 contributionsMore than just the cherry sculptureThe giant cherry on a spoon in the middle of a small pond is probably the most famous sculpture here, but there are many of them scattered around an area of a few square blocks. There is very little shade, so on a hot August afternoon, it was pretty warm, but we still enjoyed spending about 45 minutes wandering around looking at the many sculptures, and reading more about them from the signs. Entrance to the garden itself is completely free, although we did have to pay for parking (we parked in the underground parking at the associated museum across the street). This is definitely a somewhat signature sight in Minneapolis and easy to see and enjoy in a relatively short amount of time.Visited August 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 8, 2023

This is a special treat for anyone that enjoys art and walks. The thing I think I like best is that the garden looks different during each season of the year. Even if you have visited before, it will look different depending on the seasonal backdrop.
My most recent visit and the impetus for this review was during the spring when the forsythias are in full bloom. Their golden framing of most of the sculptures is my favorite.
This is a great free thing to do with a little exercise thrown in to burn off some travel blahs.

In good weather, this is one of the Minneapolis attractions that is a must see for all visitors. Good number of outdoor sculptures in an expansive outdoor setting offering plenty of opportunities to walk around, sit and enjoy natural surroundings in the middle of a very urban setting (right next to freeways!). Recommended in a pandemic!

Awesome place to go and appreciate the sculptures.
If you have good taste and you like to appreciate simple but iconic things you should come here.
It is close from downtown is placed in a strategic spot so anyone can have the chance to visit this must see in Minneapolis.
You also have the Walker Art Center right next to it, a museum of contemporary art wich I have heard good things about, but when I went there it was closed.
I would recommend any traveler in the Twin Cities to check out this area take some nice photos and maybe have a picnic.

This park is centrally located in Minneapolis and is a good place to take a stroll. It has multiple interesting sculptures and works of art and each of them is accompanied by a description of the art itself and the creator. The famed Spoonbridge and Cherry is located in the middle of the park and makes for some interesting viewing. There are some additional sculptures too that I found interesting, including the giant blue rooster (which is described as being lifelike and unreal at the same time), Black Vessel for a Saint (which was constructed using leftover materials from the process of brick-making), Arikidea (which is a huge metallic swing) and many more. Strolling around the park was a good experience. There were a few folks taking a jog or stroll in the park when we visited but it wasn't crowded at all. When we visited in spring, the grass was still growing, I expect the greenery to be much more lush in summer. This park is located close to the Basilica of St Mary which is another beautiful structure worth visiting. Walker Art Museum is located across the street from the Sculpture Garden as well.

It’s quite uncommon to find outdoor museums and pieces of art. At Minneapolis Sculpture Garden you will find, for free, a whole block full of beautiful sculptures incorporated in a garden which makes the whole experience of wondering around much nicer. I have visited during the summer and it was a very charming walk alongside such different and imaginative sculptures. Definitely recommend for anyone visiting Minneapolis!

If you are looking to get some fresh air and spot a few cool sculptures, this will suffice. The wind chimes in the summer is the best exhibit. It is free; although, parking does cost. There is limited shade so plan accordingly. They are conscious and promote social distancing. I wouldn't plan on more than a half an hour. I've seen better outdoor sculptures elsewhere. Not a cohesive theme.

Went here in July for a first date, the atmosphere was incredible. It was a beautiful day and the art sculptures give us something to talk about while enjoying fresh air and social distancing. I paid to park underground at the parking ramp, but have heard there is reliable street parking to the west of the garden.

This iconic park/outdoor museum is part of the cultural landscape of Minneapolis, due in large part to the spoon-with-cherry sculpture that's in the middle of a lake. This whole park has a bunch of different fascinating sculptures for enjoyment - so walk around, look at the sculptures, enjoy some nice weather and fresh air, and hang out. Minneapolis is good with parks and the outdoors, so it. makes sense for this museum to be outdoors in a park.

Some very interesting pieces spread out, with the headliner being the Spoonbridge and Cherry. We visited in the dead of winter which gave some of the pieces a more eerie feeling. It's definitely a worthwhile attraction, and even if you do not appreciate the art, it's a great way to enjoy a good with with visuals.

Visited in the evening hours, very few people there. If dog is leashed, I think it would be allowed. Sidewalks are wide, plenty of grassy areas too.

Hi,
My husband and I are trying to plan a trip for our anniversary and want to do a few things in the cities and are trying to fit them all in. Unfortunately a lot of the museums aren't open on monday's and I was wondering if you knew if this was open daily or if this was closed at on any weekdays too?

Hi Vanessa ! Sorry, but i am not sure.
Hi. From Downtown Minneapolis, where to ride a bus and what is the bus route going to Minneapolis Sculpture Garden? Thanks.

I'd recommend the 6, as it's a high frequency line! The stop would be Vineland. The stop is pretty easy to see coming as it's the first stop outside of downtown. If it isn't too cold though, I'd recommend walking down Nicollet, taking the Loring Greenway (right by Brit's Pub) walking through Loring Park, taking the bridge across the highway and it drops you off right at the garden. It sounds like a lot but it's only like a half/three quarter of a mile walk!
Is it free? Do you just walk to see the sculptures?

Yes it's free and you just walk around at your own pace. We got there early and found street parking very close. If it's busy I am not sure where to park.
