Itasca State Park is a beautiful park. Put your feet into the beginning of the Mississippi River, kayak, go fishing, camp, bike, hike or hang at the beach. There is a little bit of something for everyone. It is quiet and peaceful. Also make sure to take the 7.5 mile "Wilderness Drive". If you have the chance go to the... More

It's interesting to see where the Mississippi starts, and it's fun to walk across it! The stones can be slippery, I opted to wade across instead. Kids should enjoy.

It is fun to wade in the headwaters. Grab a picture and walk across. Water was much warmer in August than I expected, felt refreshing. It is a walk from visitors center.

Nice to see where Mississippi starts. You can walk down the "river" . It also has some maps and things to illustrate historian and geographic of the river.

Several entrances to this park with a very informative and instructive park center. Easy to follow path to the beginning of the mighty Mississippi. Very nice photo views to take.

Kids enjoyed this part of Itasca State park a lot. Heck so did the adults as there were plenty of both trudging through the water across the rocks. How many people can say they walked across the Mississippi River?

Mississippi Headwaters began with the advantage of being 'journey's end' after we had traced the Great River Mississippi by road from New Orleans; we were disposed to find a sense of achievement. The site is well-maintained and not 'over-trippery'. Here is good information and educational material about the river and its source. There is plenty about the headwater and the... More

Have been visiting here since my kids were toddlers. It gets very crowded mid-day. If you go early in the morning chances are you'll be the only ones there, even if the gift shop, etc. are not open yet. Going late in the day is nice too -- like around 5 or 6 PM. You can wade the headwaters (only... More

Was so glad to get to see the headwaters of the Mississippi. I have always wanted to do so, and I was not disappointed.
