The setting for Chankaska Ranch and Winery is beautiful! My sister and I are hosting a bridal shower and we went to visit the venue, ask about availability, check the food choices, and ask questions specific to our needs.
The staff was very helpful. Unfortunately, the information given to us was inaccurate. We were told that we could have two tables in an area which would have been perfect. We were also told that we could bring decorations and dessert. Based on this initial information, we each ordered a flight of wine and a charcuterie board and stayed to plan the rest of our event. We were then informed that we were given inaccurate information. Their policy is that we could not bring a small group of ten people nor could we decorate a small area or bring dessert to the designated area. We would need to go to the event center and rent the event center.
I certainly understand the need for organizational policies and practices. However, it would have been helpful to have accurate information from the beginning. In addition, I called and left a message for the Event Manager for the next two days and did not receive a return call.

I had been to Chankaska Winery once before to see a friend perform on the patio; however, did not get to experience the tasting room. This time I did and I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoy being able to taste wines before I purchase a glass or bottle. When at Chankaska they give you chips that you redeem for the wine you want to try, which is better than having them preselected for you! There is a charge for the tasting but very minimal, I think it was $5. However, if you join the Wine Circle than it is free and receive additional discounts! So I joined and cannot to receive my first 2 bottles in January. They have a variety of wines to please almost anyone's taste and a limited food menu, but everything looked delicious; however, we did not eat. I will be going back again really soon and look forward to trying more wine and their food, and using my Wine Circle membership.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem hidden between St. Peter and Mankato. They have a reasonably priced wine tasting flight that allows you to choose which wines you prefer. Most of their wines are a blend of imported grapes; however, the quality in taste was quite refreshing compared to other Minnesota wineries. They also offer delicious oven baked specialty pizzas as well as other appetizers to pair with your wine selection.

I had my wedding at Chankaska this Summer. It is a stunning view, but the service is complete opposite. They kept going back on things they had told me I could do. With the amount we paid I feel as though the service was mediocre. Working with the event coordinator made planning a wedding ten times more stressful than it already was. She did not respond to emails or phone calls until she needed to ask me something. I was told we could arrive to get ready and take pictures anytime we wanted. We were told we could bring food in for our wedding party. We were also told there would be a room for the groom and groomsmen to get ready. The Thursday before my Saturday afternoon wedding I received a phone call from the event coordinator telling me I was not allowed to bring food, there was no room for the groomsmen, they must come ready, and we are not allowed to come until 1:00pm (after we had decided on 11am). As a bride I was stressed to the max, and this brought me to tears wondering how we would get it all in. She than told me they did not have the proper cords to play the music and that I needed to provide my own (I paid extra for the sound system already). At the rehearsal I did not have the right cord and the event coordinator said she would go make sure I had the right one. My wedding went off the next day without any issues. Out was absolutely perfect. We only had the ceremony there because of the outrageous price for the reception. Every single thing costs money separately. There is no package even though it appears as there is. I had a wondeful day however, I would NEVER consider it again for anyone. If it was earlier on I would have backed out. It was just not worth it.

Horrible customer service. First time ever there, also first time drinking wine and I had ZERO help. The four ladies in the front just put menus in front of us and made sure to tell me "we don't do table side service." No introductions, no questions, and no suggestions on wine, she just left. Meanwhile we were the only people there. So the ladies were just standing there watching us struggle with understanding the menus and what to order. Minutes later another couple comes in and the employee gave the other two, her complete attention and gave one on one customer service. The woman then asked for our credit card to hold in the back, but she never asked the other couple. Never having been to this establishment I was definitely expecting to be helped by employees with better attitudes towards new customers, and be treated fairly with the equal amount of attention and customer service. I will never go there again.

Have visited in several occasions since the opening and continue to hope the service will improve. It is nearly impossible to get the attention of the staff behind the bar and the overall feel is completely chaotic. Attended a comedy show in the spring of this year which was quite good. Again, nearly impossible to get a glass of wine during the show and when we did manage to get the attention of a server we felt as if we were bothering them!! The show then ended 15 minutes earlier than indicated on the ticket billing. We were then hurriedly ushered out by wait staff who mentioned that they wanted to be done working by 9 pm-we assumed this was why the show ended at 8:45? My fiancé and I had contacted the winery in beginning of the year requesting information on renting space for our wedding reception. We both left separate contact information and were never contacted. Frankly, we are relieved we did not contract with the winery and will be holding our gathering at another establishment in Mankato. We will happily drive the extra miles to Morgan Creek Winery from now on...

Wow amazing wine! Beautiful grounds! THE WORST customer service. What a shame. Such potential.... Begged my beer drinking boyfriend to stop after a beautiful day of golf. Help had no interest in us--other than taking my card for a tab. After waiting 20 minutes from initial interaction I changed order from a tasting with potential to buy to one glass and a quick appetizer. More experienced help was summoned and inconvenienced to change my order while snootily explaining the worker was new. Sheepishly apologized (why?) and was told meat and cheese platter would take an hour. Cancelled my food and left. Others behind me at bar seemed pleased with my decision. I could go on but why...

I find this venue tough to rate as the grounds are beautiful, facilities are very nice and the wine is very good. The hard part is that the staff was fairly rude and unhelpful. I can't say its worth the $8 glasses of wine for that reason but I tend to care about service as I am a firm believer that it matters. We were recently there for a wedding as well and the wedding party felt the same way. Kicked out by the end of the ceremony and bossed around as to which part of the winery we should be in. Hard to want to go back.

Understanding that this winery just opened, you'd think that they would be at the top of their game to get everything perfect. Upon arrival, our group was told to go to bar to get wine tasting tokens. There was a very long line and then, after a long wait, found out that we could have purchased our tokens right by the door where there was not line. Ordered pizza and was given a buzzer to let us know when it was ready. After 30 minutes went to the bar and asked if the food was ready. The pizza was already sitting on the counter - and had been for a while - they forgot to buzz us. When asked if they had silverware/plastic ware was given a plastic knife and fork wrapped in a napkin. I asked for a couple more, as we were a group of six, but was told they were all out. I don't enjoy eating my pizza with my hands. And this was at 6:00 pm on a Friday night and they were out of plastic ware. The winery is a beautiful place with great wind and I am sure it will be successful. I probably won't be going back for a while unless the service improves.

I have to say the times I've been here I've only had good experiences. It does get busy on the weekends sometimes, but there is ample space. My wife and I have always gotten great service from all the staff and we love the wines! The Marquette is amazing!! We also really enjoy the pizzas. The menu changes with the seasons and is always very unique. I am constantly recommending to all my friends and family. I truly believe you wouldn't be disappointed.

We plan to visit for our second time August 27th. This time bringing another couple. What would be some close hotels or B & B's to stay? We don't want to drink and drive. Do you pick up & drop off at any hotels?

There is a really amazing hotel in St Peter, the Konsbruck. You can easily Google their website for contact info.
They are just getting ready to open the restaurant in it under new management, so I'm not sure what the arrangement is at the hotel now. But it's worth a phone call.
