When I think of Minnesota State Parks, I think of a series of beautiful moments. Rounding a corner and getting that breathtaking view or an unexpected treasure. But this park lacked moments.
The Minnesota River was low, felt dead, and the walk along the river lacked places to appreciate the view. Most of our walk was through fields in full sun, straight lines, no benches to take a break or breathe in, no hills.
For a state park, it was almost completely lacking in infrastructure. I even drove past the entrance to the park because it looked too much like a turn-off, not a state park.
All in all, while the wildflowers were beautiful, I was disappointed.

Excellent, untouched nature. Camping , hiking, geocaching, wild flowers. Hard to believe it is so close to town and yet so primitive

I hiked the 4-mile hiking club trail. It was easy and the trail was well-marked. Part of the trail is along the water, some is in open prairie, and the rest is in the woods.

A very scenic portion of Minnesota River frontage with great earthen trails for hikng, biking, and even for horseback riding. Fall colors are incredible and having the water close by just adds to the serenity of the area. Great spot for a quick nature fix without getting out of the suburbs!
