Our family of four (2 boys, 15&13) took advantage of Afton’s cabins for one great night this month. As it was close to Christmas Day and we were coming in after dark, I called and the ranger said the key would be in the door,...More

This is a wonderful place to spend a day picnicking with friends, walking in the park or spend some days and nights at the hike in only campground. Wonderful views of the wild St. Croix River and surrounding woods.

Hiked the Hiking Club trail here. The trail was very well marked and easy to follow. The first half (going down) is nice, with a beautiful view of the St Croix valley and meandering along the creek at the bottom. The second half is pretty...More

This state park is perfect. Miles of hiking trails with elevation, water access and beautiful sites. I would highly recommend this park! There are camping sites aplenty- some backpack in, some group sites, a couple of yurts... something for everyone and just a short trek...More

While this well-used state park is close to the Twin Cities, it doesn’t appear to be well loved by staff. The front sign is in a terrible condition. There are a few activities in the nature building and great restrooms. I’d live to sit a...More

This is one of the many state parks in Minnesota. The park ($7/vehicle for 1 day pass) is not only beautiful like other state parks in MN, but also unique as in the followings: It is established on one bank of a River - the...More

Afton has a lot of trails to keep you hiking. The trail that follows the river is shady on a hot summer day. Their trail maps are terrible and sometimes inacurate.

I walk a lot in Afton State Park - every season is beautiful. Today, I happened to get a picture of the black bear that has been seen in the area lately. Fortunately from a distance - maybe 100 yards. I saw the bear just...More

We just stayed two nights in Afton's camper cabins with three other families. What a great first-time camping experience! The cabins have a screened in porch, little table with bench seating, ceiling fan, and two bunk beds each a twin over full bed. ADA cabins...More

No. Hike in camping only. I think there is a KOA in Woodbury if you want to stay there and hike in Afton State park. You can buy a MN State park sticker to hike Afton State park, get a day pass OR park on the south... More
