As a Minnesotan, the events that took place in this area are important to our Minnesota history. The Visitor Center does a good job of explaining the situation that arose in the 1800's. The information attempts to show both sides of the conflict. There is also a reconstructed building that housed some of the staff that worked at the Upper... More

we stopped here on our quest to reach 125 miles for the MN state parks 125th anniversary. there's a promotion this year where you get some acknowledgement for hiking, biking, canoeing 125 miles. Happy to say we accomplished our 125th mile at this park. Sue in the park office is so nice and helpful. she also talked about the passport... More

It's location is away from main roads and high traffic. It's isolated and a person can either camp in campers, tents or rent a Tepee. It doesn't have a lot of trails but it does have the Casino a few miles down the road. So camp and stay up by campfire and do some gambling as well.

This park is located on the Minnesota river and offers beautiful hiking and horse back riding trails, scenic views, primitive campgrounds (although a few sites have electricity) and is the location of significant historic events which occurred at the Upper Sioux Agency in 1862. A small interpretive museum at the visitor center details history of the area. We visited in... More

The ten of us had 3 electrical horse campsites together for 7 horses. The sites are perfect! The Rangers are pleasant and helpful. The trails are well-maintained. Can't wait to go back!

Had a wonderful fall walk on the trail along the Minnesota River. The campers were enjoying fishing.

Spent a 3 day weekend camping at the Upper Sioux State Park. Has a lot of history associated with the park, especially about the Native American Indians that inhabited the region. The park has tipi's erected for people to rent. Fishing the Yellow Medicine river will fill your afternoon as it runs through the park.

This Great serene park is one filled with great views and frogs. I have never been anywhere that I have seen so many frogs at and toads as well. As we hiked down the trail hundreds of frogs scrambled to get out of our way. The views of the Minnesota River Valley were breathtaking. I have heard there is teepee... More

Rich in state Native American history, Upper Sioux Agency Park offers something no other campground in the state, and perhaps the nation, does - enable you to camp overnight in a tipi! Three authentic Dakota Sioux dwellings are erected each season providing campers with an opportunity to experience life on the prairie over 150 years ago. Each tipi has a... More

This is an important stop on the Dakota history trail. There isn't a lot left of buildings, etc. but learning what happened here is so interesting. There is a very good educational exhibit. And a large piece of restored prairie. The staff is excellent and obviously devoted to this park.
