You get to see what public transportation was like about 100 years ago. They called it a street car and the system consisting of tracks all over the city and several streetcars was generally called the Rapid Transit. Almost every city in the country had one. I'm 71 now but I remember when I was 5 years old in Milwaukee and taking the street car downtown with my grandmother. This streetcar was completely restored and made as close to what it was originally. There were several running all the time from Minneapolis to Excelsior because Excelsior had an amusement park. There were even streetcar boats that would take you from Excelsior to an island on Lake Minnetonka for people to have fun at the beach. They restored on of those too and you can take a ride from Excelsior for a tour of the lake. So riding these old restored street cars is like a trip back in time. You will ride a short distance to a garage where there are a few more street cars, one done, one they're working on, and one used just for storing things in. The kids loved the streetcar line here and in Minneapolis. I love it as well - the conductors are always so friendly and it is such a nice thing on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

A visit to the lovely wee town of Excelsior would be incomplete without a ride on the Streetcar Line! We waited in a shady spot on the far side of the station & the children enjoyed climbing on the solid chairs & watching for the train. When we got on, the guide was friendly & kind, showing the children everything he thought would be of interest to them & trying to include the adults with historical stories. Our ride was short but absolutely fine for youngsters! We enjoyed the stop to see where another engine is being refurbished, & even bought a couple of cute souvenirs. Being allowed to ring the bell at the end of the ride was a treat for our wee boy! This is a small, personal, gentle outing presented by guides who obviously love what they do.…

This was a fun trolley ride, on the oldest operating trolley in the country! The guides were very friendly and knowledgeable, the equipment is in excellent shape and the ride even included a tour of their trolley barn. Well worth the $2 it costs to ride. The kids will love it!
