Amazing view of working mines in the area! This area is the mining meca of Minnesota. What should really upset environmentalists that visit this cool lookout is all of the garbage that has been dumped and left here. What a mess...
The view is pretty spectacular! The one way gravel road travels up to the lookout. We saw large mining dump trucks carrying iron ore to be processed. A fun little adventure. One could bring a picnic and eat on the large rocks around the lookout.
We had been there before at least 10 years ago. Lots more trees and brush along the road leaving so you can't quite tell you're driving on the edge of cliff. It's amazing to see the ores and little curvy roads on piles of rocks!
Free attraction off of Hwy 101. It's a dirt road on a mine dump so be careful not to go over the edge. The vistas are amazing, as is the view of active mining at United Taconite. Sunsets are especially beautiful.
