This was an experience of a lifetime that I highly recommend. I went with 2 friends and we did the 3-day condo trip. The first day was a how to day; dress, harness, ride, drive the sled. A perfect first day. The 2nd day was more advanced and different than the first. Again perfect. The 3rd day was an afternoon departure with a sunset and night sledding under the stars! Amazing. Peter and his guides are top notch, they will absolutely make sure you are not cold. The first day we went it was -29! I was worried and even though it was hard to move in my 5 layers I was not cold! The next day was 22, almost a 60 degree swing! Dog sledding was more physical than I expected, but totally doable, again the guides will absolutely make sure you are comfortable. Peter and his guides made sure we were very well fed, I think he could open a restaurant from homemade breakfasts and dinners with dessert to meals like steak and shrimp and hot cocoa on the trail we were never hungry! The dogs, are so sweet and loving, it’s hard to leave them! I can’t say enough about this trip, seeing this lifestyle was fascinating, book this trip now and bring your family and friends, you won’t regret it!

It was a great winter adventure! We spent a night camping on August Lake and two nights in the yurt on Gander Lake. Camping the first night out was a good idea so that we could enjoy the 80 degree change in temperature from the tent to the yurt. The guide, Eliza, was a great dog and people leader. The dogs are wonderfully trained and very friendly. We spend 4 to 6 hours a day sledding and wish we could have stayed longer. It is a well run outfitter for dogsled adventures. Drive slowly enough on the way in on Deep Lake Road so you don't end up in a ditch like we did!

We can't say enough about this trip. We had so much fun! We did a three day trip and took the lodge option. Everyday we ran through pristine wilderness, ate a camp lunch and came home to a much needed meal and early warm bed.
The sledding is amazing and the dogs are adorable and friendly. My wife only half-joked about smuggling one in our carry on. Our guide, Eliza, was competent, extremely personable and displayed an extraordinary amount of patience with us as new sledders-no "guide attitude". She is a true professional and I would reccommend her to anybody. The owner, Peter, is also very friendly and took time to talk to us every day. He even had dessert and hot chai waiting for us after the exhilarating night run home (no lights allowed!).
We stayed at the Grand Ely Lodge. Very friendly staff and food was above par. You will appreciate the hot tub after 30 miles on the trail.
If you are looking for an adventure with a professional guide service this is your place. Make sure to watch the videos regarding dressing for the cold!

White wilderness was great!! My wife and I ,late 60s traveled from florida with our son and grandson,14 the day after Christmas to do the3/4 day dog sledding trip. The crew was top notch and taught us how to harness the dogs to the sled and also taught us how to do the mushing ourselves .What a blast! The dogs were so friendly and raring to go! Eliza was our guide and she was fantastic ! She led us through the most beautiful snow covered trails and then we stopped for lunch and cooked brats on an open fire near the trail! It was truly a winter wonderland! A special thanks to Peter McClellend ,the owner for providing a safe, super experience in the north woods. It was a trip we'll never forget!

We planned our dogsledding and winter camping adventure largely because we were looking for alternative outdoor vacations during covid times, so it was sort of a "back up " plan. However, it turned out to be one of our favorite family trips! Staff was super helpful in planning and "upgrading" our clothing gear. They were very mindful of keeping us comfortable, especially since we had a 10 year old kid with us. We actually camped in negative 18 weather and it was still a BLAST. Who knew you could be that cold and have fun at the same time?? (Only possible because of our superb guides Eliza and Jered). And just for the record: we are solidly a cat family. And yet, those dogs nuzzled their way into our hearts, each with their own quirky personalities. (One of the best parts was learning how to harness the dogs for sledding.) Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a unique winter experience.

With COVID looming continuously over our lives, my daughter and I decided to stay in Minnesota, support independent business and relax with an outdoors “winter break” rather than a sunny “spring break” this year. White Wilderness did not disappoint. Everything was exceptional. Our guide, Eliza, made us feel relaxed yet useful and well cared for. The dogs are so loving and love what they do. Just watching them work together and play together warmed my heart. The scenery was spectacular. The food so yummy. Thank you Peter and Eliza for a memorable adventure.

Peter is very responsive and attentive to customers. We did a camping trip into the BWCA and his guides (Paige and Greg) were knowledgeable, attentive and nice to cope with all our questions. Highly recommend White Wilderness if you want to experience what running with sled dogs is.

White Wilderness adventures yurt trip was a vacation of a lifetime! My family and I spent four glorious days with a team 18 Alaskan Huskies mushing through the Superior National Forest and spending our nights in a cozy yurt. It was incredible to see the team of dogs in action and to witness the dogs love of their sport. The dogs have a wonderful temperament cuddled with my family after a day of mushing. We fell in love with all of them. The dogs are well looked after at White Wilderness and you can tell they are loved. Our guides were also incredible and cooked us yummy food and took us on breathtaking. Wonderful experience!

Thanks for another awesome trip! I have brought all 3 of my daughters on a full day trip when they are in 7th grade and they have always loved it. We both get plenty of time mushing and warming up inside the sled. The crew at white wilderness are terrific. My youngest was a little nervous but the guide explained everything. They also obviously love these dogs and know each of their personalities. The dogs are well cared for, happy and love to pull.

Plans to be in the area March 26 and 27th. Has anyone had a cancellation of trip before? I so want to confirm a date before paying the deposit and dont know if I should just chance it but it goes against everything I know is best. With a possible yurt stay, I need to secure a place to sleep if it falls through. Waiting for a return email and I'm getting anxious. They've been good to return my 2 calls since Dec but can't really talk when I'm at work which is beyond frustrating. Help?
Written March 14, 2019
Our guide said that they don’t cancel as long as there’s snow. There’s still a lot of snow. They don’t run the dogs in the late spring and summer because it gets too warm for the dogs.

I live in South Carolina. Do they rent enough equipment to keep me and my family warm?

We rent the outerwear, Parka, snow pants, boots and mittens. You will need long underwear and some more warming layers such as fleece sweaters.

Does the Bayliner food court sell milk? We'd like to keep some in the room refrigerator for kids cereal.
