The campsites are nice and secluded with lots of vegetation and trees all around them. They are tight and hard to get into with a large RV. We have a 40ft 5th wheel and it was hard to get in our spot. Luckily my husband is a very good driver!! The shower house was spotless and the water was perfect... More

My husband and I recently hiked to the falls and back. It was a strenuous up and down hill over often very uneven terrain. For all of our effort, the falls were not very dramatic at all. On our return, we saw many people ...some carrying babies with very young children and others in sandals. We don't know how they... More

We stayed at Bear Head Lake State Park for 4 days. It is a really nice campground, lot of nature to be had. There is no playground for young children but there is a lot of water stuff to do at the beachs. We were in campsite #66 and it was a little tight for our 21' camper but we... More

We loved this State Park! Nice level campsites. Very scenic, lots of boats, canoes and kayaks. Good hiking. Lots of programs with good bird watching. Quiet, with plenty of shower facilities. The loons singing every day were awesome!

Our family had the pleasure of park hopping this summer and by far Bear Head didn't come close to the other three parks in its maintenance! Couldn't locate a dumpster within any reasonable distance, dirty toilets, firepits so full you couldn't get the wood to burn, grass in the campsites two feet tall and stinging nettle within two feet of... We stay annually in the Group Camp which is quite secluded and very, very quiet. The lake is the main attraction, and it's just stunning. Plenty of fish, not too many people. Our party caught 5 very good sized bass with leaches in a couple of hours- and a HUGE Northern that we threw back, easily 20". The real pleasure... More

We've done a lot of camping in Minnesota State Parks and this park is one of the most beautiful we've visited. It's in woods of Northern Minnesota and there's wildlife, hiking, boating, canoeing, fishing and great programs put on by park staff. There is also a lot to do in the surrounding areas of Ely and Soudan. You'll want to... More

The park had some really beautiful lakes (Eagles Nest #3 was our favorite). We did some hiking, biking, kayaking, and fishing. Don't expect good fishing in Bear Head Lake. Boat/canoe rentals were pretty cheap. The campground was quiet, and our site was close to the water, but there were lots of potholes and low-hanging trees. And the sites were pretty... More

Bear head has everything going for it, yet we couldn't get ourselves to stay a second night. First night our campfire was squelched because the pit was so full of ashes it had no airflow. We had to use our fan to keep it going! Grass had not been mowed all year, helping the mosquitos to stay close. (64e) We... More

Such a beautiful area and a really great campground. This was my second visit and despite the beauty, I feel it is slightly lower than it was 4 years ago when I last visited. I think everyone knows about BHLSP earning a national award a few years ago and it was well deserved. But, having just visited this past weekend,... More
