Drive over the lift bride onto Park Point, and see all of the variety of homes on thie sand bar. Many places to access the beach. Go to the end ...we saw tons of seagulls, which we fed, and they went wild.

This is just what we needed to properly experience the shoreline and the Lake. I suppose we were there on a nice day, it was sunny and not terribly windy. Very isolated and a bit spooky, but pretty nice still.

We drove out here to go see the lighthouse that was on this point. It's either called the Minnesota Point Lighthouse or the Zero Point Lighthouse. We drove out to the Sky Harbor Airport and parked outside of it. It's a small private airport. The...More

This beach is gorgeous! We have visited with our children and without them. We all love this beach. Perfect spot for a romantic sunrise, skipping rocks, picnics, and swimming.

Where to stay and beach question (4 Replies)
We're a family of five. We've narrowed our lodging choices to a house on Park Point and a condo in Canal Park. We're weighing the pros and cons. Is there generally a long wait for the lift bridge if you stay on Park Point? Also, is parking a problem in Canal Park if you don't stay there? We like the charm of Park Point, but think Canal Park might be more practical. Help! On a completely different note, we honeymooned in Duluth 13 years ago and spent a day at the beach on Park Point. This...More

When are you planning on coming up? Being a lifelong resident I tend to avoid Canal Park during the summer so I would pick the house on Park Point and if it is close enough to Canal Park then walk/bike to it. I do believe the Lift Bridge is on a set schedule (not more then once every 0.5hr?) on when it can go up for recreational boats but not the lakers. Still if it is a nice day traffic will be backed up. Which is why walking or biking makes much more sense. I am assuming the biting flies...More

Trip Report-Family trip to Duluth (4 Replies)
Day one-Arrived. Stayed at Residence Inn. This was not in Canal Park, but it worked out just fine. Cub Foods is next door and accessible by foot path if you get a suite with a kitchenette. It is also close to many dept. stores, a mall and chain restaurants. There were only two days that we actually parked within Canal Park itself, so it wasn't a big deal to not be in Canal Park. Stocked up on groceries and went to Enger Tower after supper. Nice grounds. Wear repellent if going at this time of...More
