The new lake walk is beautiful and an engineer marel to enjoy. Most tourists will not see the engineer marvel of the large boulders buried in the lake to break the incoming waves. Behind the boulders a thick concrete wall anchored deep in the ground offers a second layer of protection for the new lakefront. There's also a new system to drain away water from the waves that do crash over the wall. Some tourists might not appreciate the higher wall but it is aesthetically pleasing and more importantly safer for everyone and will keep all the hotel lakefront intact. And it’s still beautiful to take a stroll or bike ride. The views are magnificent.

What a lovely way to spend a nice day! This lakewalk has eight miles of lakeside boardwalk where you can walk, jog, bike, etc. on clean, well-maintained pathways alongside beautiful Lake Superior. It provides for a gorgeous way to get some fresh air at your own pace. There are many benches for you to stop and simply enjoy the views. There are also many fantastic dining opportunities along the way.

This was a great trail and a beautiful walk along the lake. We loved walking around and seeing the the flowers at the Leif Erikson Park. We also loved the benches along the trail and how we were able to walk down closer to the lake, beautiful view of Canal Park and even a ship in the distance.

The lake walk is one of my favorite things about Duluth and it’s recently been redone, almost finished at Canal Park. However, it is not the Duluth we grew up loving. Along the lake there are homeless sites, some with drug paraphernalia, tents even, just a block up we saw homeless people digging through trash cans and each corner had beggars with signs. I would not go out alone at night and definitely wouldn’t let our 12 year old son. The city needs to fix/help this issue.

Great trip. We arrived at approximately 5:30 pm and made our way towards the Lakewalk. There were several electric scooters and bikes that one could rent out, to ride alongside the length of the path. The walk was very calming and relaxing, and provided beautiful views of the water. The path itself stretches for several miles, and we only opted to walk about a mile or so.

Very nice recently renovated lakeside walkway with a separate paved bike path. A great way to get to the Lift Bridge and canal from various hotels along the lakeshore. Many park benches to sit and lookout at the lake

This is a must do in Duluth, even in winter, even while under reconstruction.
It is paved and done on the Fitgers side of the walk. There is a dirt path around the construction on the canal park side. Again, worth it even during construction. (Completion expected end of dec 2020)
Suggest walking up the steps to an overlook at the ‘corner’ for a nice overlook of the pebble beach area.
Beautiful walk past Fitgers along the lake and down to canal park and the aerial lift bridge. Even in December, ships were still coming in! Get outside, take this walk and enjoy the big lake!

While the boardwalk is gone from the winter storms, it’s yet another reason to go down to the canal and checkout the lake walk. Impressive damage. You can see where the light posts were and I get where the boardwalk was.
Regardless of damage, this is a beautiful spot to go to. Just wear good boots and know it is more of a hike and a scramble, than a stroll!

The Lakewalk is excellent. The paved path provides a nice walk and view along the lake. There are several restaurants and shops along the way if you wanted some food. You can also stop at several sandy beach areas during the walk. Definitely a recommended activity on a nice, beautiful day.

I very nice walk around the lake which will be nicer once the construction is completed. Needed to walk around the barriers and put up with all the noise. But with those items aside, it was a very nice refreshing walk. Looking forward to take the same walk next fall when we visit Duluth again

I think so. I don't recall any signs to the contrary (although I wasn't really paying attention as I didn't have a dog with me!).

I’m in Duluth to run my virtual Grandma’s marathon—even if I can’t run the actual race I can still take in the beauty of the city/state. I’ve been told actual route is not safe but looking at doing the Lake Walk or a Willard Meager trail. How many miles is the Lake walk area?

How long does this lovely walk take?

From the bridge to 21st street is about 45 minutes to an hour but you can then pick up the bike trail and walk to two harbors which is days away (walking) but I would suggest taking your time and stopping to (literally) smell the roses in the park, check out the veterans memorial and other things along the way.

Hi, kathyGreenBay_WI. What would you like to know about this attraction?
I have read that there is damage to the Lake Walk and areas not passable.....how did you find the condition of the Lake Walk? Scheduled to go to Duluth this week.

The paved path is good all around Canal Park and between Canal Park and downtown. The separate boardwalk beside the paved path was washed out in places, but what remains is good for standing to view the lake without being in the way of walkers, runners or bikes on the paved path. Hotel staff told me the path beyond Fitzgers (a bit more than a mile from the Lift Bridge) was not useable Saturday 6/2/18. Enjoy your visit!

when is the boardwalk scheduled for repair?
Joe M
Altamonte Springs, FL72 contributions
The full repair will be done in the spring once the weather breaks but the lakewalk and most of the boardwalk is in perfect shape. The city closes the area around the lighthouses as it is dangerous with the ice that splashes up and freezes.
