About North Shore Scenic Railroad
History comes alive on the Lakefront line of the North Shore Scenic Railroad. During our summer season several trains a day depart the historic Duluth Union Depot for excursions through downtown Duluth, Canal Park, along the shore of Lake Superior and deep into the majestic north woods. Fully narrated tours tell the history of Duluth, the harbor, and the stories of the railroads that built northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Everything was pretty great but the train ride was fun. It was relaxing and the museum was fantastic. I enjoy going back into the past and seeing what things looked like and how cute the fake stores were in the train station.

There was nothing about our experience that met our expectations. We regret having paid for a trip that we could have done for a fraction of the price at our own leisure using our own car. The views were limited, the seats were uncomfortable, and the train car was cold. There was very limited eating availability in Two Harbors. There was a group of women in our car that were drinking, loud and obnoxious. One of them vomited and although it was attended to immediately by the porter, it left a noticeable stench. What a bust! I definitely would not recommend this trip. Do yourself a favor and just drive.

We splurged for the dome car and are so glad we did, not only were the views great… but we got to meet CJ. She was so much fun, took good care of us and really made the train ride a great experience. Our 3 teenagers agree!

The ride itself was just fine - very cool to be on the train. However, once in Two Harbors -Many of the restaurants that were listed as stops for the shuttle were not open until after our train left or not open at all. We were not told this in advance and had decided to walk. We walked to 4 closed restaurants, by the time we arrived at open restaurants the shuttle had dropped off more people than the open restaurants could handle all at once. I don't fault the train tour company for closed or unopened restaurants - It just would have been nice to have had more communication on things listed on the map that were provided by the train tour - we could have planned a bit better. Additionally, early on on the way to Two Harbors, one of the bathrooms became unusable. This really became a problem when we had to wait an hour to go back to Duluth as we were not allowed off the train for that hour wait time. Just a lot of crabby people on the train at that point. We made it through but it was a bit disappointing.

The ride was beautiful in the fall. The staff on the train were very nice and friendly. Jessica was mostly taking care of beverages and snacks for us and she was a lot of FUN to interact with! It was our 22nd anniversary.
