Having traveled a lot, to 50+ countries, I must say this is an excellent visitor center with everything you need to plan a good trip. The people who helped us were from Duluth so we got some good advice.

This year we decided to have our vacation in Minnesota and enjoy our local attractions. We traveled to Duluth which felt like a trip to an ocean town. This museum had ample information and was very educational. I learned so much and my children enjoyed it too. We were inspired to do the harbor tour afterwards and saw many sites... More

This museum, operated by the Corps of Engineers, has excellent displays, good explanatory labeling, educational videos on Great Lakes formation, and ore ship loading, as well as excellent information sheets on various subjects when requested. I have visited many museums which were little more than the equivalent of dusty attics, but this one was superb.

This museum is pretty much perfectly sized and the displays are organized such that if you have no interest in a particular subject you can easily skip it and not miss anything. Topics ranged from the history of the Great Lakes in general to ships and shipping to maritime disasters to the Corps of Engineers. Our whole group enjoyed our... More

This is a very nice, clean museum. It really helps you to understand the perils of sailing on the Great Lakes. Many educational exhibits that can be enjoyed by children and adults. It is free and we were there late in the evening and were the only ones in the museum. My friends had visited before, but still found many... More

I had to drag my wife into the museum, took her photo at the "helm" steering the ship. From that moment on, she loved the place. She read all the placards explaining the displays. We watched 2 explanation movies that made us realize and appreciate all the engineering and hard work that accomplished this port. We learned that Duluth is... More

This is quite an interesting place to visit if you do not know anything about the history of boats and the area. It is not just a typical museum but it also has some pretty cool interactive displays. This is a great place for all ages.

We have returned several times over the years, with kids, grandkids, and by ourselves. They have wonderful educational exhibits and current information about the ships coming through the canal every day.
