Our scout troop puts on a food concession here several times during the summer to earn money for the troop. The staff and volunteers here are well organized and managed.

The free concerts attract a pretty decent crowd and they do a great job helping those who are mobility challenged to get priority parking and redirecting others as needed. One group provides golf cart shuttles as well.

Shelters, bathrooms, grounds etc well maintained. Feels safe and is patrolled.

My favorite park in the north metro, Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park has trails on the east side of the Mississippi River, north and south of the Coon Rapids Dam. My favorite trail is north of the Visitor Center (and the parking areas). The section along the river is asphalt, and the section through the forest is limestone-covered. My usual trip is up one side and down the other. Both the river trail and the forest trail are kept up year-around. The wildlife and plants are marvelous. A real attempt is made to keep this trail as natural as possible. The short loop is about 2 miles, and the longer one is about 3 miles. I visit in every season of the year!

in comparison with Hennepin County parks. Not the best maintained park evident by overflowing trash cans and port a potty near the rim. Other than the trail and the river not much else. Anoka County needs to put $ into the park.

I've been a frequent visitor to this park for over 30 years. Speaking for myself and many friends, our favorite thing has always been the abundant wildlife. You could drive all the way back to the river where there was parking, picnic pavilions and a fishing pier. There was almost always something to see in terms of wildlife. Deer, eagles, fox, beavers, waterfowl and a great blue heron rookery on the other side of the river. Unfortunately, they made some "improvements" a couple of years ago (2013-14?). The road no longer goes back to the river. It goes to the southeast corner of Cenaiko Lake, where it ends in a parking lot. I've talked to many people who hate this as much as me and my friends. You can no longer drive to the fishing pier, putting it out of reach for many people, especially older folks. The nice picnic pavilions by the river go unused because people aren't willing or able to carry their coolers & other picnic gear all the way back there. It's still a good park to visit but this one bad move with the road has angered many people. It's a good place to hike, bike or walk your dog. The boat access was improved & there's plenty of spaces to park a vehicle with a trailer. Quite a lot of people fish from shore, too. There's still deer to be seen, but dramatically less than a few years ago. Bowhunting for deer is allowed. Probably good to keep the population in check. Many of us wonder, though, if they've killed too many because we don't see very many deer anymore. Despite the changes we dislike, the park has many good things to offer and is worth a visit. A daily vehicle permit is $5 or $25 for an annual park sticker.

I biked through here in the summer a number of times in the summer and did a little fishing here as well. The paths connect into the Three Rivers Park trail system, which is nice, and just outside the park is a bike service hub with a manual pump and an easy-to-read map of the local trails. Fishing in the Mississippi can be good, though I wouldn't eat any of the fish you catch out of the river. There are a number of picnic pavilions located on the northeast side, as well as some playground areas for the kids.

In April/May, walk along the back paths, past Coon Creek. Until the trees leaf in, you will see a succession of bloodroot, hepatica, trout lily, anemones and other spring ephemerals. Thursdays in summer, there are free concerts.

I take my dog here all the time, there are so many places to walk. There is a nice trail that winds around the trout lake and another that follows the river and comes back on the soft trail that is the cross country ski trail in the winter. There is a beautiful little lake/pond that is pretty hidden but nice to look at on a beautiful summer day.

I've enjoyed concerts here as there is a Thursday night at the Dam concert series every summer. Always a great variety of music offered throughout the summer.

They do charge for parking and if you visit a lot it's worth it to get an annual permit. The annual permit is good for other parks in the Three Rivers system such as Bunker Hills. A lot of people park outside the park and walk in.

We also enjoy boating on the river here. They are redoing the boat ramp now (looks like it's pretty much done) and we can't wait to see what it will look like in Spring. There is always plenty of trailer parking and getting a spot to park has never been an issue.

There are plenty of picnic areas with bbqs available, and one can rent them ahead of time too.

There is plenty of wildlife to view and I often see deer and Bald Eagles and Bluebirds and there seems to be a beaver about now and then.

The Dam is a beautiful place to visit!
