I love the MN Landscape Arboretum -- during the growing seasons. I had read about their winter lights display before going to MN this year. The entrance fee was still $15 per person. Yikes! The trees in the main lodge were lovely as was the...More

We arrived hoping for a lovely Christmassy walk through the twinkling lights- instead we spent 20 minutes trying to find a parking spot as there was no one directing the parking in what was clearly a very busy popular event (surely taking enough huge sums...More

We have gone to the MN Arboretum several times and find it to be ok. There are nice outdoor areas to explore, but we think the price is too high for what you get to see compared to many other arboretums and conservatories across the...More

We went to enjoy the colors of fall. We spent 3+ hrs exploring and taking pictures. We had to leave to meet friends, yet enjoyed every minute we were there. We look forward to going back in the Spring.

This a beautiful place to visit. We did it at the end of the summer. I will definitely return in the spring and hopefully in the fall to see what other colors nature will bring to this wonderland.

A group of us went to the Arboretum on a beautiful fall day. We took the 3 mile tram ride and our driver/guide, Rick, was awesome! His knowledge and fun personality made the one hour ride fly by way too fast! We all learned so...More

There are miles of trails and most are lit up from what I remember. One can also drive through. Due to the super cold temps, driving might be better. Happy Holidays!

There is a 3 mile loop but we took it on a tram ride. A lot of the displays are very close to the main building which wouldn't be much of a walk.

Landscape Arboretum (7 Replies)
My husband and I are garden enthusiasts and were planning on visiting the MN Landscape Arboretum during our stay in MN. I didn't realize it was so far out of town and was wondering if the drive takes a long time. We love gardens, but only have 3 days in the city and want to be sure it is worth it. Thanks!

Yes, it's worth it. Not sure where you are staying, but it's easy to get to from downtown and the airport. It's on Highway 5 going west and in normal traffic it's less than an hour's drive from those areas. Second the suggestion on Como Conservatory. They usually have a spectacular display in the Sunken Garden; there is a nice Japanese garden in the back, and smaller beds in front as well as water lilies in pools by the main entrance. If you go to Como, you might as well check out the...More
2 days....staying near Fairgrounds (4 Replies)
Staying near the Fairgrounds for the BMW Rally July 24-26 and while husbands are checking out every bike, wives are looking for some attractions to take in. Some one suggested the Landscape Arboretum...any others? From Houston, so we are looking to enjoy your cooler climate.

If you like plants and flowers, the Como Zoo has a conservatory and a Japanese garden. It won't take long to go through it, but it's VERY near the fairgrounds and it's free! The Landscape Arboretum is very nice and will be lovely when you're here. It's located in Carver, which is quite a hike from St. Paul. About 30 miles one way, but worth it for the greenery you lack in Texas. If that's too far, the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden in Minneapolis is also a good place for plant-lovers. How...More

Getting Around Minneapolis & Timing (3 Replies)
Our first day in Minneapolis, we will have a car and the remaining 2 days we will not. We were thinking about visiting the Landscape Arboretum on our day with the car. Is that a good idea or is it easy to get to with public transit? Also, we were thinking about visiting Minnehaha Park to see the falls and enjoy the outdoors. Do you recommend this and is it easy to get to using public transit? Any other must-sees? We were thinkign of Walker ARt Gallery, Minneapolis Institute of Art, and a...More

Yes, take the car to the Landscape Arboretum. I'm not sure if public transit goes there, but it would take forever if it does. You can reach Minnehaha Park by light rail. Very easy. It's a great park. The Mill City museum is wonderful. Be sure to walk around on the back side as well. You can walk across the Stone Arch Bridge (or at least out a ways on it) and see ruins of former milling operations. I'm not sure where you are staying, but it is fairly easy to get to the...More
