Scenic paved trail running along the Cannon River from Cannon Falls to Red Wing, Minnesota, ideal for rollerblading, biking and hiking. Multiple access points. Please view our website for more details.
I bike this trail once a year and each time, it’s always a great experience. The small $4/bike fee is what I believe, keeps the trail in great condition. Roughly 20 miles of paved trail from Red Wing to Cannon Falls, the pavement is in...More
This trail has it all. Easy access, a smooth paved surface, gentle grade, forest, river views, fields, wildflowers and two iconic MN small towns at either end in Cannon Falls and Red Wing. Nice rest stop at Welch midpoint; which can also serve as a...More
A friend and I recently cycled the Cannon Valley Trail, which we had done individually and together in the past. I live in the Twin Cities and he lives in Rochester, so it's a convenient place for us to meet for a ride. We parked...More
We did ten miles round trip with an 8, 6, and 4 year old and a toddler in a bike trailer. It’s very flat. Very shaded. Really pretty fields and places to enjoy. Our kids loved it.

The trail is in great repair and offers a smooth, relatively flat ride. Much of it is shaded. Great wildlife viewing, although some of the critters may run out in front of your bike. Beautiful wildflowers in July. There are nice benches along the route...More

The Cannon Valley Trail (CVT) opened in 1986. At that time, there were ‘donation stations’ along the Trail. The Wheel Pass Program was established in 1989 and continues today.
Wheel Passes can be purchased at local businesses in Cannon Falls, Welch and Red Wing. You...More

I could see if other trails in Mn charged for bike riders, but this... as far as I know, is the only one in the state! The taxes we pay in Mn., should cover this trail also! $4 a day isn't much, but what if...More

Cannon Valley Trail is one of only a couple of bike trails in Minnesota that is not owned and operated by the state. The fee to ride funds the continued maintenance and improvement of the trail.
I cannot speak for the hotel in Red Wing,...More

The Cannon Valley Trail offers spectacular and diverse scenery for the entire 20 miles, however having said that, if you are looking for scenic vistas that include the Cannon River and the bluffs along it, then the 10 mile section of trail between Cannon Falls and Welch is a suggestion. If you are looking to experience the river bottoms, including the Cannon River and wetlands, then the 10 mile section of the trail between Welch and Red Wing is a suggestion. The entire Trail is scenic and picturesque!
