Great place to learn a bit about Bloomington and how the area was settled. Great building and surrounding area. During fall there is a "River Rendezvous" event with reenactments of the era and learning stations. Fun for the whole family.

A nice hidden Gem. Great view,good walking trails close to the river. I get to this area often because I love the quiet nature walk paths!

This park houses a 19th century federalist style building on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the Gideon and Agnes Pond House. The Pond Dakota Heritage Society hosts events at the Pond House every Sunday 1-4 pm, on the Dakota people, missionaries, and life and times of Gideon and Samuel Pond, pioneer settlers, e.g, river rendezvou, tapping of sugar maple sap for maple syrup, etc. Someone dresses as Gideon Pond and takes you through the house, The house displays the first newspaper in bilingual English and Dakota languages. The city of Bloomington MN maintains the park. Check event schedule on the city of Bloomington web site under newsletter of the Gideon and Agnes Pond House. …

The Pond-Dakota Mission Park and Gideon Pond House is a well-maintained house and grounds of one of the first missionary sites in Minnesota, Mr. Gideon. The Pond-Dakota is authentic and keeps to its historical mission. There are classes, tours and speakers to give visitors a feel for the early days of the U.S.A. Highly recommend. Not far from the Mall of America, less than five miles, so a great place to bring the family.…

Gaining access to Gideon's house may be dicey, due to schedule, but it is worth the short side trip, just for glorious view of the Minnesota River Valley. Particularly on a cold day, in late fall -- a visitor can not fail to time-travel back to those heroic pioneer days. The isolated site, and really -- the whole scene, is a tribute to people, who walked into a wilderness, and made history. …
