A lot of businesses were closed in Downtown Bemidji on Sunday afternoon, but the sculpture walk is always an opportunity. A lot has changed in the sculptures selection since we were here last, but it was still fun to walk around to each intersection and observe the sculptures on each street corner. This is time well spent by yourself, with a date, friends, or with your family. There really is something for everyone to appreciate. Well played, Bemidji!

Don't skip the trail. I might argue this is cooler than the iconic Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox statues. Head into the visitors center next to Paul Bunyan. Ask for a trail map or scan the QR code to get the map. If you don't want to visit the center, download the app and follow the trail.

In general, the trail is a walk through old town Bemidji. The Indian seen next to Paul Bunyan is one of dozens to see. Cross the street to find several more. I road my bicycle by many of them. I didn't get off to take pictures, but I enjoyed seeing all of them.

It was a beautiful fall day. We enjoyed walking along the lake and downtown. Nice area for little shopping and a meal. Restrooms by the tourist information center and Paul Bunyan Park/Statue. Paul Bunyan Park has picnic tables, benches and pavilion if you want to enjoy a take out meal or just relax.

We walked along three blocks on the sculpture walk in early July 2016. we walked from the Bemidji brewing company to Paul and Babe. There is an interesting variety of sculptures and each corner. Our toddler son's favorite was Humpty Dumpty. The walk is in the heart of downtown Bemidji. It passes by shops, bars, coffee shops and an ice cream shop. Did I say ice cream shop? What more you need to know. Do it today.

There are many sculptures near the ice and downtown. Some are historic while others are modern, many with a Native American influence. The collection rivals many large cities!

While there are many things to draw one to Bemidji, especially if you want to 'get away from it all', the Sculpture Walk adds a cultural aspect that is really special. Take the time to explore ALL the pieces. This will take you from one end of town to the other. Visit some of the local establishments and you'll discover a vibe that's a lot more hip than expected.

Bemidji's sculpture walk is a wonderful way for local artists to show their work and for the city to make a statement. It says we are proud of our artists. There are often themes for the walk which reflect our culture and what makes Bemidji, Bemidji.
