Beautiful lakeside park-bike Paul Bunyan trail
Oct 2021 • Couples
Lovely state park across Lake Bemidji from town of same name. Plenty of parking, restrooms, and easy access to Paul Bunyan trail. Biked on mostly flat paved trail with nice tree canopy and frequent glimpses of the lake, about 7 miles south to town of Bemidji. Can take obligatory selfie with giant statue of Paul Bunyan and Babe the blue ox at waterside park in downtown Bemidji. Tourist office there as well for more are information. Several restaurants and gift stores nearby.

Great place, love this campground, however someone really needs to clean out the weeds at the boat landing!

Hike or bike
Jul 2021 • Friends
The park is beautiful, broad easy trails. Good signaling makes it easy to find your way.
Don’t miss the bog walk!
Sundews are beautiful but really hard to find. Fortunately there are labels!
There are bears but we missed them. (For good or for bad)

Perfect day to walk the Park
Aug 2020 • Couples
Although the campground was full, there was still plenty of room to maintain distance. Nice walk to the bog in the late afternoon. Bugs did not bite, but did fly around the eyes. Even the background road noise did not interfere with a perfect day to walk the park.

Nice hiking
Jul 2020 • Friends
We were on our way to Lake of the Woods and wanted to stop and see this park. We had about an hour so decided to do the Bog walk. Nice wide grassy path so never encountered any mosquitoes. You have to cross a freeway and it is and easy flat walk. Didn’t realize how much there is to do at this park. Will definitely come back probably in the fall. We are so lucky to have such beautiful state parks.

Great with little kids
Jul 2020 • Family
We are on a trip staying at a resort closer to Walker, but on a chilly day decided to take a day hiking. I was looking for something different than Itasca State Park this year. We had a lot of fun at Bemidji Lake State Park. I wasn’t sure what to expect about the size of the park, but we ended up hiking for a solid 3 hours, with trails that were paved (Rocky Point), wide mowed grass (most of the trip, Homestead and Balasam), board walk (Bog Walk), and narrow dirt paths (the last leg of our trip, Bass Creek trail, clearly less traveled). It was all easy walking for little kids. We found wild blueberries and raspberries along the way to eat (don’t just eat random berries you find, only eat them if you know your wild plants!!), and a lot of Hazelnuts, which weren’t ripe yet. It was a relaxing hike that sometimes came upon a highway, and at one point requires crossing the highway. The bog walk was definitely the highlight, as the different type of plant life and pitcher plants were really neat to see. The beach also looked nice. There are flushing toilets by the parking lot near the beach and playground.

Easy flat hike to the big lake. Interesting plant life with a change in ecosystem along the way. Fun boardwalk stroll.
