We stopped so my gf could take a picture of the masstadon. We found out if had blown over in a storm so was a little broken. The hide is made of metal shavings. Very interesting. Inside we went looking for a petoskey stone for her souvenir. We did not view the museum because of time, but it looked like a very nice display. We found a stone and the proprietor was very nice to also show us an artifact from another area. It was a great stop. Next time we will make a point to see the museum.

Rainy day on vacation, looking for something indoors to do. Searched on the phone, and found this awesome place. We were there two hours, and it was not enough time. Hundreds of life like animals ,fish and fowl on display, with Indian artifacts, old west , and antique archery and firearms. The owner took us on a guided tour, and explained many unique items to me and my grandchildren. He even unrolled a boa constrictor skin that his father had killed in Burma during World War II! See photo. Ask him about the bow he sold as a young man at his parents garage sale, only to buy it back 20 years later at a different garage sale!

A must for not only any student of Michigan state history, but any student of Native American history. The biggest collection of artifacts I’ve ever seen, and curated with amazing thought and care.

This museum is incredible! I lived up north for 20 years and never went but after I moved and went back up north for a visit we all decided to go museum hopping!! Let me tell you!!!! This place is incredible. My daughter is a beautiful city girl but wow the impact of this great museum was exciting. The scenes that are set puts you right with the animals in their own environments with a slice of fun as the post questions, “find the ....”, so it becomes a fun competition too. Great fun and the gift store has many rustic items to choose from!!! Love it!! It is a must stop! Of course I purchased the toddler pink mocisins for my adorable grandbaby!!
