Great place. Enjoyed walking around the buildings and the beach area. Gift shop was small but had some interesting items. My husband collects patches of lighthouses and we were able to purchase one here.
We headed out with the thought of eating at the Jolly Pumpkin (never found it) but had a great time exploring the lighthouse and stopping along the way at a cherry orchard for a few berries.

This was a highlight of our Michigan trip. The trip out the peninsula to arrive at the lighthouse was amazing. At some points you could see the lake on both sides. Connoisseurs of wine will undoubtedly stop at some of the wineries along the road....More

If the question is why it was closed on a Saturday afternoon, I have no idea. I do understand that it is volunteers who open and close and run the gift shop of the light house so perhaps there we no volunteers at that time... More
