About
Mission Point Lighthouse has been a Traverse City and Old Mission Peninsula icon for decades. Located at the north end of a picturesque drive along M-37 through cherry orchards and vineyards, Mission Point Lighthouse stands as a classic piece of Michigan history. While it no longer guides mariners through West Grand Traverse Bay as it did from September 10, 1870 until it was decommissioned in 1933, Mission Point Lighthouse now offers visitors a peek into what life was like around the turn of the century for lighthouse keepers and for others who lived and worked in the area at the time. Self-guided tours of the lighthouse museum for daily visitors in May-October, and weekends in November.

Can't go wrong with a stop here!
May 2021
Despite the early evening hour, we still drove up to see the Lighthouse, knowing it had closed for the day. But you can walk around it, see the outbuildings, including a historic log cabin, and read the historical plaques. Then walk on down to the beach and grab a spot to sit and enjoy the great view of the Grand Traverse Bay, with the sun glimmering on the water, and the boats and the birds and the kids in the water. Great place to relax with a good book or a nap!! There are trails to walk and tables for picnicking too.

Mission Point Lighthouse - A Worthwhile Visit
May 2021
Well worth the visit to the lighthouse when touring Traverse City and the peninsula. Wonderful giftshop and the volunteers who staff the lighthouse are friendly, helpful and informative. Interesting history of the lighthouse. 12 miles of hiking and biking trails. Sandy beach for strolls. Stick around for some amazing sunsets.

Neat

Neat place to visit! The furthest point on the mission peninsula, right at the water's edge. Great walking trails, and an old cabin, representing what folks would have lived in back then. Fun little side-trip, especially if you are wine tasting along the peninsula.

We drove up the peninsula to see the lighthouse on a beautiful sunny day. The fall colors were amazing and the drive was well worth it even tho the lighthouse was closed.

Very well maintained lighthouse with small beach for walking.
Sep 2020
We had a wonderful visit to Mission Point. The lighthouse itself is beautiful and the grounds surrounding it were well maintained. There is a small beach area below it where you can take a short walk and get some great photos of both the lighthouse and Lake Michigan.

20 minute drive from Traverse City
Sep 2020 • Couples
You couldn’t go inside. In fact, you couldn’t even look inside as workers were there painting and there is a fence around it. But it is a pretty location and a nice drive.
