... Is the motto for The State, but it's also about wonderful, comfortable seating, reasonably priced tickets and concessions. The State celebrates 100 years this year, and has been completely re-furbished, so you'd never know it is that old. It boasts the largest screen in northern Michigan, and a ceiling representing a view of the night sky in August here... More

Enjoyed a great movie at State Theatre at $6.50 matinee price during the afternoon. Theatre is staffed by Traverse City volunteers to raise money for their town. Popcorn, snacks and sodas are at reasonable prices. Comfortable seats and beautiful interior. Enjoyed seeing historic photos displayed inside.

Great movie theater, attended by volunteers, from ticketing to in-theater amenities. I loved the stage, the chairs, the movie and the overall experience including the restrooms and how they lit up outside and inside the theater. Paid 8.5 Usd to watch the movie of the night but they have movies for 50 cents well. Better check the program since I... More

The State Theatre is home to a famous film festival each year. This theatre has a huge screen and has been restored in all it's glory. The sound is excellent! The seating is very comfortable. The concession and movie pricing is very reasonable! Dedicated volunteers help keep the costs down, and the patrons benefit from that. All staff members are... More

This theatre is amazing! One of the only places to see movies in Traverse City besides The Bijou! From the moment you step into this theatre you will fall in love with not only the theatre but the volunteers who spend tireless hours donating their time to the ultra comfy seats to the awesome screen. You will not be disappointed!... More

This fully restored downtown theater provides a great cross-section of entertainment all year 'round! Vintage films, current releases, live streaming events - all shown on a 50' screen - are only part of the attraction. The State is also "ground zero" for the annual TC Film Festival. And there are only twenty so good restaurants to enjoy wishing 3-4 blocks... More
