Great Trail for Everyone!
Oct 2020
The TART Trail is excellent! It's well maintained, paved, and has an abundance of beautiful scenery. I'm not normally a bicycle ride or walk through nature type of person, but I really enjoyed these trails. My wife is a cyclist and she talked me into renting an eBike so we could ride together one day. We rode 26 miles and I really enjoyed it.

The trails are well marked and nicely paved, they are plenty wide for "traffic" in both directions. There and a few parking areas, a bike repair station, and even some port-a-potties along the way. And there are a number of benches too if you wanted to stop for a snack or drink or just look at the scenery. We were there in early October and with the color change, it made for a very scenic ride. There were people of all ages on the trails from families with young kids, to "serious" cyclists, to seniors, walkers, rollerblades, eBikers, etc. I'll definitely go back again next year.

Easy Access from Our Hotel
Sep 2020 • Couples
The Comfort Inn where we stayed gave us perfect directions to ride our bikes several blocks, cross the street and access the TART trail at Hastings Street. We rode about 12 miles along trails and wooden bridges. It was very nicely maintained and was a highlight of our day. Traverse City is a very bike friendly town.

Sutton’s Bay Bike Trail
Sep 2020
We spent a beautiful day riding this trail from Traverse City to Sutton’s Bay and back. The condition of the trail is excellent. Even the portable toilets were clean and well-maintained. It’s a net elevation gain going north, so I’d recommend doing the northbound half first, a break for lunch in Sutton’s Bay, and return southbound. My husband and I are daily cyclists in the summer and found it to be a pretty effortless ride. Round trip is about 30 miles.

Great network of hike/bike trails in Traverse City
Aug 2020 • Solo
The main track runs from downtown out to acme along the railroad track. For those staying at the motels along Munson Avenue, there are numerous access points to get on the trail. Same is true for those staying at the campgrounds on Munson Avenue. It’s very popular with cyclists and joggers.. I’ve used it numerous times.

Great Path
Jul 2020 • Family
Path has multiple places to access and is paved throughout the stretch. It connects to some rail trails in the area. Excellent path for running, walking, cycling or blades.

Suttons Bay Bike Trail
Aug 2019
We rented bikes at Traverse City park and took the bike trail up to Sutton's Bay. The map said 17 miles so we figured that would take a couple hours on regular bikes, we would stop when we got there, enjoy the town and eat, then bike back to Traverse City. What we DID NOT know was the trail heading to Sutton's Bay was mostly uphill. Even though it was a gradual climb it was nonetheless 90% uphill and what we thought would have been a 2 hour ride ended up taking us about 3.5+ hours. It was simply exhausting but one of the most beautiful trails I've ever been on and loved the scenery all the way. Had it not been for that I would have bailed and headed back. Along the way you cross through some beautiful farm land, winery country and we even found a young man selling lemonade which was mush welcomed since we did not plan for that long ride. Once we got to Sutton's Bay and eat we just didn't have enough time to bike back because the sun was going down so thankfully there is a bus that you can catch that allows bikes onboard. We got the last bus back to TC and the bike rental place just in time for closing. If there's a next time, I will rent a motorized bike, LOL

Great community asset
Oct 2019
Partly an old railroad track route, winds thru downtown and along the bay. Continues to Suttons Bay north of TC. Great way to get a run or walk in, lots of people strolling and walking dogs as well. Some biking, has it all!

Great!

The system of trails is well maintained & well marked...except in the city itself. Perhaps the recent construction has altered the signs, but all in all, the TART trails are a great facet of TC!

TART trail for a great bike ride or walk
Aug 2019
The trail starts about 7 miles wast of TC at Bunker Hill goes along the lake, the airport, downtown, Clinch Park, West Side, the marinas, and 17 miles to Suttons Bay near several wineries Paved and away from the street. Great for family biking and walking and more aggressive biking.
Tip: Put your bike on a BATA bus to Suttons Bay and only have to bike one way back.
