We visited Chateau Grand Traverse Winery this past weekend, March 2024. We were staying at The Inn at Chateau Grand Traverse, so we visited the tasting room three separate times. Each time we were greeted at the door and asked if we needed help or direction. The attendants at the tasting bar were knowledgeable and did a great job of presenting the products. The tasting room is inviting with comfortable furniture and a fireplace. You can purchase tastings or wine by the glass. The tasting room was quieter than most, even thought there was a fair crowd. The outside area is protected during cold weather with clear vinyl curtains which allow you to enjoy the view of the surrounding area, Grand Traverse Bay and the vineyards, which is remarkable. The store has is stocked with tasteful keepsakes, apparel and of course wine. Their prices are fair and they provide volume discounts. Summing up, if you visit The Mission Peninsula north of Traverse City, make sure to stop in and enjoy.

We loved our time at Chateau Grand Traverse! We did a private tour and seated tasting with Michael and he was excellent! Very knowledgeable and the experience was exceptional! Definitely book a tour! It’s so unique and you’ll learn so much about this historic winery! The wines were all exceptional! Our favorite was the Late Harvest Riesling. Definitely don’t miss ordering their cheese board during your visit and the German soft pretzel! Their cherry seltzer is also so refreshing to enjoy on their patio! Definitely a must visit in Traverse City!

Another nice winery on the peninsula. Bartender was friendly during our tasting. We enjoyed our wine tasting and took a bottle home with us. The store they had was stocked well with wines and wine related items.

This winery was our favorite of the 7 wineries we visited on Old Mission Peninsula. The service in the tasting room was friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable! The wine prices were reasonable. You also get to keep your stemmed wine glass from your tastings. The server did an excellent job of explaining each wine and making recommendations based on your preferences. We will be sure to visit this winery again the next time we visit Traverse City!

This was the only winery doing wine tastings on Old Peninsula. There was a wait outside to get to stand in a line inside, and they were only serving 4-5 parties at a time. We ended up waiting 20-30 minutes total to have our wine tasting last maybe 15 minutes. We enjoyed the wine and bought two bottles, which made the wait worth it. Definitely would recommend if you don't know what kind of wine you like and are interested in trying a few!

As we drove the Old Mission Peninsula all the way to the top, we noted that we wanted to stop at Chateau Grand Traverse on our way back to Traverse City. My wife went in to find out the particulars of where our dog was allowed, and then we were met on the beautiful patio by one of the staff who explained the wines to us in great detail. We each had one glass, but I could have spent the entire afternoon there in the quiet of the patio. Before leaving we went into the winery and gift shop and bought souvenirs and many bottles of wine that we both enjoyed on the remainder of our trip as well as saving some to enjoy at home.
Wonderful place. I hope to go back some day and spend more time there.

We stopped in for an impromptu wine purchase and ended up doing the wines tasting!
As someone who is not familiar or educated on wines, I excited to learn a bit more. Our wine server, Jon, was so knowledge on the wines and the process of prosecution. He even recommended several wines for a first timer to try; a couple of his recommendations we ended up buying as well.
The winery is intimate and a great space to delve into the world of wines without the the pressure of purchasing.
I would highly recommend anyone to stop in for a tasting, if not, then the views from the patio out back of the water and miles of vineyards will definitely make it worth your while.

Would highly recommend a stop at this great winery! The people were fantastic, the wine tasting beyond excellent with the pourers knowledgeable about each wine with great recommendations. For $5 you get to taste 5 wines and keep the glass, with each one we tasted being excellent! We enjoyed it so much we each bought a glass of our favorite (which was NOT and easy thing to narrow down to) and got to keep those glasses as well! We loved their wine so much, we bought a case of different wines to bring home. Considering becoming a club member as well! Lucky for us, we will be going back next year and staying at the inn for the 2021 Cherry Festival 1/2 marathon! Can’t wait and will probably bring home more wine!

My wife and I were on a road trip and explored the Old Mission Peninsula and 3 of its wineries. The Chateau Grand was the most commercial. The tasting experience was steril. The wine stewards were friendly, but there comments about the wines came across as rehearsed and unemotional. The wines were decent, but not remarkable.

I have been visiting this winery for over 30 years. The location with a view of the bay is stunning, no matter the season. This visit was during Covid-19 restrictions, with the number of visitors allowed tasting limited. The winery offered a tasting for $5 which included the very nice keepsake wineglass. Case discount of 15%.
