Take Your Time See It All
I haven’t been here in 20 years and I live 10 minutes away. I came to see the new Canopy skywalk. I brought my wife and brother, we’re in our sixty’s. We were greeted by two nice ladies at the drive up ticket booth, it was $8 for seniors. It is about a 1/4 mile walk on a gravel path with some parts a mild uphill slope. There are a few benches on the way. It is a fairly mild slope on the uphill part of the bridge. (I have a bad knee and it was no problem) the bridge is over 700 feet long on a double suspension bridge, which bounces a little with a see through grated floor. It was worth it. We visited the three greenhouses in the conservatory and the bonsai collection (my favorite). There are hiking trails with info on time and distance. There is also vehicle trails through the woods, it was narrow one way path that was hilly; that was fun! What I didn’t like was I had a question and I could not find a representative. person anywhere. Overall…. Well worth it.

    Great park, too pricy.
Beautiful place but needs a grounds keeper big time! Limbs hitting your car when driving and your head head when walking and hiking. The entry is now $10! Most likely b/c of the $$ spent on canopy walk but we go there to walk and hike the trails and now we will look elsewhere. $10 is too much.

Cute gardens - super cute fairy tale festival
Visited for their Hog Warts & Toad Bellies family festival this Fall and we had lots of fun. We came from about an hour away, so the festival was really what drew us in, but I can see how if we lived closer the gardens would be a fun visit all Spring and Summer. We enjoyed the skywalk and the greenhouses - the bonsai section is very neat. During the festival there was a gnome scavenger hunt, with little gnomes all over the grounds you had clues to track down - so our hunt to find them really gave us a fantastic tour of the grounds. Paid $5 per adult, with kids under 5 being free and would highly recommend the Hog Warts fairy tale festival event. If they hold it every year, we will be back next year.

I love going to Hidden Lake Gardens! It is a pretty drive from Ann Arbor and is only about a half hour from Jackson through the Irish Hills. The gardens and conservatories are just delightful. There is a small very informative gift shop. But really for me it is the trees - such varieties and such loveliness. One could hike or drive about the whole day. Once I even took a nap on a quiet grassy slope in a fairly private corner when I was getting over chemo. It is only $3 per person. A hosta garden lives on one hill near the lake. Dogs on leashes are welcome, too. There are often special fun exhibits, or lanterns, or costumed scarecrows. Interesting unusual evergreens, hardwoods, fruit trees. Something new to discover every visit. A bonsai collection, too, just behind the conservatories.

Traveling in Southern Michigan we came across a nice surprise. A garden run by the University of Michigan is a low-cost way to really enjoy a day. One can drive or bike or walk or hike any or all of the park for only $3 per person. Since we are avid birders, we enjoyed ourselves immensely. We needed to have more time to enjoy the nature they are in the park.
If you get a chance to go to Tipton stop by at this park on Route 12. You won't regret it!

Loved it!!!!! It is 755 acres that is maintained by the michigan state University. One drives thru it at a slow rate. Many places to pull over and walk about. I never knew there were so many different hostas ... I highly recommend it and one is able to take a picnic with them as there are places to enjoy such a thing.

Seems like my favorite places have been overrun with people the past 40 years. So I would like you to avoid this place at all cost. There's nothing here but amazing bonsai, hosta gardens, acres of unique tree species, trails, a beautiful drive, a lake, and flowers, flowers, flowers... go to Ann Arbor instead.

This place is pretty and nicely landscaped but I'm not a fan. Paying to get in and look at the landscaping is boring and there are better state parks in the area.

If you live anywhere near here, and you haven't yet visited, you don't know what you are missing! This is a must-see garden for all near and far. I am a garden fanatic, and this is definitely worth the time. A wonderful place to walk and get lost (figuratively) in nature.

I've been coming here since 1970. Adrian businessman Harry Fee started it in 1926 by purchasing 200 acres upon his retirement. His plan was to farm it and dig a lake. He did both and much more, building a road through it and turning it into a botanical garden, with greenhouses and many well-planned groupings of specimen trees and gardens. In 1945 he donated it to the State of Michigan with the request that it be operated by Michigan State University. The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor already had a botanical garden south of the village of Dixboro, but Hidden Lake Gardens outshines it in every way. It has been expanded from the original 200 acres to 755 acres. There are several greenhouses and a conservatory with many valuable and rare species of plants, ranging from tropical to temperate, including a bonsai collection. Outside there is a Hosta Hillside, picnic areas and 10 miles of hiking trails. Pets must be leashed at all times. They have numerous events all year long. Admission is only $3.00 per person. Hours vary according to the season. To be safe call ahead, 517-431-2060.

If you are planning on doing any hiking here, be warned that the woods are COVERED in poison ivy. Even on the edge of the trails.
The rest of the gardens are beautiful and worth a visit. There are several areas to have a picnic. Plenty of parking.
