A really interesting park to visit. It has quite a tale to tell about the lumber industry in the state. There are a lot of interactive elements to the park, plus a dynamite overlook on the AuSable River. A little off the beaten path, but if you go later in the year, like we did, you miss the crowds and can spend time there.

Was quite a challenge when seven of us tried to ride my 61 Chevy hood down the sand bank all at once in 1971. Got hot on our bare feet, had to bale out half way down. Paul made it all the way to the water. Can I have my hood back now?

This park was gorgeous. I particularly Loved their memorials for wildland firefighters. Well done Tawas! If your looking for a nature workout, travel the MANY stairs to the river shoreline.

We have always enjoyed a quiet respite at Lumberman's Monument Park, located about 15 miles from Oscoda, MI. The River Road Scenic Byway takes you thru the Huron National Forest on the way to the park. The park has some simple exhibits, a statue, a great hiking trail system, good overlooks. fantastic views of the Au Sable River, and a steep staircase (almost 300 steps) to the river. This park is kept very clean, and is lovely. Picnic tables, picnic shelters, bathrooms, drinking fountains, trash receptacles, a visitor center, small gift shop available. Park open all year, parking plentiful. Visitor center open til mid-October. Be sure to bring a picnic!

Sites big enough for even the largest families. Boats can be pulled right up to each site. Views that will take your breath away. All at a very cheap price. The last time we stayed it was $10 a night.

we went to the lumbermans monument area of michigan just 10 miles from
tawas michigan. This is the most beautiful place. hundreds of miles of trails in the woods. trails are 12 feet wide. you walk through old camp sites used many years ago. moss 4inches deep on picnic tables, out houses still standing ,next to a trout stream that has been vacant since the 1940's.
Bears laying on their backs in the blueberry bush's just scooping blueberries into their mouth. Walk bridges built by workers under president roosevelt. Beautiful kayaking (Not whitewater). The best thing is that you may not see another person all day. Walking in the woods is like walking on a sponge.Deep shades of green and plenty of wildlife. wild turkeys in groups of 10-20. The reason this area doesn't have hoards of people is because 90 perscent of the land is in the huron national forest and their is no room for growth such as hotels and restaurants and tourist attractions. Their are hotels and restaurants 10 miles away in tawas city which is on lake huron. Horse trails, quad runner trails, snowmobile trails abound.
unforgettable, healthy, inexpensive vacation and fun for all ages.

Lumberman's Monument is a great place to visit if you are in the Tawas Area. There are many informational booths about Lumberman and there is AMAZING scenery, so bring your camera, and some extra film! If you have kids with you, go on the trail(about a half mile walk) and there will be a deck overlooking the Au Sable River, and if you and your kids want, you can run down the 200+ feet sand dune down to the Au Sable River. There is also a small gift shop where you can purchase a little treasure to remind you of this great park. It is an overall great place to spend time with friends and family.

This park has steadily improved over the years If anyone is interested in the history and life experiences of the loggers you must stop here. We first visited lumber’s monument in 1967. We still enjoy visiting the site both for the natural beauty of the site and the informative displays and videos. For the young and athletic you can take the stairs down to the river. It is cool and beautiful even on the hottest of Summer days. They also have nice restrooms and a small gift shop.

The mighty Ausable river offers many spectacular scenic overlooks and Lumbermans Monument in Iosco County is one of the best. Take a drive along River Rd from M65 to the West and Oscoda to the East and enjoy Iargo Springs, Conquers Monument and Lumbers Monumets. All beautifl.

Absolutely gorgeous views of the mighty Ausable River. Nifty lumbering and insect critter display and a walk down the steps will reveal a lumbermans “general store”. The kids working in the little shop are friendly and fun and you can even saw a piece of a log!! Go. The whole road has fun things to see and it’s beautiful in the fall as well
