ISEA's sole mission is to educate through experiential learning. From the self-guiding displays at the organization's education center, to boat-building classes to sailing experiences aboard traditional schooners, there is no better place to learn about the Great Lakes and its ecosystem. A true family experience with lifelong lessons.

Thank you for this wonderful review! We continue to look for new opportunities to teach about the Great Lakes. We will have a ROV program off the deck of the schooner Utopia in TC this summer. More

Beautiful evening spent on a wonderful boat. Exceptional hospitality and expert aboard to explain the constellations on this clear night. Coffee provided....be sure to bring warm clothing as it gets cool out in the bay at night!

We totally enjoyed every aspect of this fabulous trip. The staff was knowledgeable and attentive, all are very much vested in the ecological welfare of the great lakes as well as sharing their love of the lakes with others. Would not recommend for very young children (under 7 or 8)

We are very glad you enjoyed your sail and that our love of the Great Lakes is apparent to others! While younger children may not understand all the ecological portions of the program, many 5-8 year olds come aboard. They especially enjoy looking for organism in the benthic material, watching the fish caught in the sample, seeing the color change... More

I am repeating what I have been told from my daughter & grandchildren, who were on the sail that morning, I was unable to accompany them at the last minute and cancelled my reservation (Judy Krug) They enjoyed it very much and my daughter was amazed to see both Holly (12yrs) and Adam (8) so very interested and immersed in... For the past five years we have vacationed in the Traverse City area. With the exception of Sleeping Bear Dunes (a national treasure), this is the most enjoyable excursion we have had. Our group of seven family members ranged from one and a half to sixty-nine years of age. There was something for everyone! We learned a lot about sailing... More

We strive to provide a memorable hands-on adventure for all ages and appreciate this wonderful detailed review! The Inland Seas family (staff, volunteers, and donors) loves being part of creating these memories with your family. Come back for an Exploring Microplastcs or Astronomy Sail next time you visit TC! Excellent hands-on educational trip for our kids (8 and 9) to learn about sailing, Lake Michigan, the science and chemistry of the Lake. The crew and teachers were fun and engaging! I would highly recommend this trip for all ages.

I sailed on the school ship schooner "Inland Seas" out of Suttons Bay Michigan. It happened to be an astronomy/meteor excursion. Sadly it was a cloudy evening but did manage to see some stars and a few planets. Prof. Dick was both knowledgable and amusing. Crew members were friendly and professional. I would not hesitate to book another tour with... More

It was great. Family with me also very happy with experience. Even though the clouds did not totally disperse, the sky was fairly open and the clouds moving enough to see a number of stars and constellations. Liked the docent's presentation and that he was receptive to questions. Sorry, I didn't catch or retain his name.

So glad you were able to experience this with your family! Thank you for being understanding that we cannot control the weather. Dick Cookman, the astronomer, is very flexible and enjoys talking with the passengers. More

Organization dedicated to teaching about saving the Great Lakes water from pollution. We took schooner sail for 3 hours on Sutton's Bay to learn about plastics in the water. Dr Bill and Captain Kevin were awesome as well as the crew. Our first time a board a schooner
