Surly attitudes and no service at all.
May 2021
What happened to this winery??? This used to be our favorite winery to visit on our twice a year visits to the area. The surly attitudes of each employee we encountered made us leave without even buying a bottle of wine to go. We wanted a wine list and were told they are not available. They suggested we pull it up on our phones. We walked inside the store and were glared at as if we walked in without clothes on. Looking at the wines inside nothing was priced at all. My husband and I agree that we will never go back nor will we pick up a bottle of Shady Lane here where we live.

Hi we where their this last Sunday with a reservation 11-08......We live here we can go any of the many wineyer's on both peninsula's. The outside area WAS DIRTY, really!!! Leaves every where, yes I know it's fall and I also NO the make leaf blowers!!

We ordered a bottle of white, and as he drop offf the wine at our leafy table, I had to ask for a chiller. The help working never came by to ask if we'd like something.

Poorly run, dirty, and help that needs lots of help.............

All that being said pretty good wine and a very pretty spot!!

Horrible Service and Poor Attitudes
Oct 2020 • Friends
Visited Shady Lane Cellars on Saturdays (10/24) for the first time with a group of girls. We made reservations and this was our last stop for our wine tour of the Leelanau Peninsula. Upon our arrival, we were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful location, however we soon found out that the scenery was the only thing we would enjoy during our visit. The staff were rude, unaccommidating and extremely disorganized. Flights were ordered at the outdoor bar where the glasses were labeled with abbreviations for the varietal of wine. This sounds like a great idea, but they failed to take names or identify any way of whom each flight should be delivered. As a result, several of the women in my party did not receive the correct wines. The staff members were much more concerned with enforcing social.distancing guidelines rather than providing even a modicum of decent customer service. This visit was our first and also our last to Shady Lane Cellars. Absolutely horrible! Drop the attitudes and learn how to do your jobs.

Sorry to bother you with our business.
Sep 2020
Horrible experience. Sorry to bother you with our business. My wife and I were looking for a Winery to check out. We did our first last year and bought lots of goodies. We saw a sign on the main road a few miles away and drove to the place. A younger blonde girl "greeted us"; was very rude to us. It was obvious we were not welcome. We we surely would have bought at least 2 bottles of wine. Fast forward, a decent guy did serve us. We were not offered seconds; nor invited inside to where they store likely really makes their money - selling wine. So we left. It also appeared beneath this arrogant hostess to wipe the rain off the chairs for their "guests". With employees like that, who needs competition to take away from the bottom line ($).

We will go back to the awesome FRIENDLY, INVITING winery in Suttons Bay next year and spent our money on wine and such there instead.

Hello and thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear about your experience as it is certainly not representative of the experience we strive to create for our guests. All should feel welcome, particularly in this pandemic environment where so much has changed in the way we can operate. I would like the opportunity to understand more about your experience so we can better ensure it does not happen in the future and sincerely hope you will consider visiting again in the future. You can reach me at rick@shadylanecellars.com if you are open to further discussion. Thank you and be safe.

S-H-A-D-Y! SHADY! SHADY! SHADY!
Jul 2020
I've never left a review of anywhere but this place was so detestable I was compelled. The staff is absolutely HORRIBLE, rude, unhelpful, shady, down right terrible. My husband and I went there as a first stop on a wine tour celebration after eloping and every single person was absolutely horrible and rude. The entire staff gave us dirty looks, made comments under their breath, no one wanted to help us with the wine tasting, we had to move tables 3 times to sit in the far corner of the grass at the unreserved tables even though we had a reservation. When we went to pay we were handed a contract and told they own all the rights to the pictures we took and we are lucky they weren't going to charge us 3 grand for taking them on their property. None of the other people taking pictures there were handed contracts, only us. I did not see any signs saying we could not take pictures, no rules on their menus or websites saying it is not allowed. I understand they have a business to run but it wasn't a wedding. If there was a problem with taking pictures in our outfits it should have approached sooner and with the slightest bit of kindness and professionalism. "Congratulations but just an FYI here's out rules with taking pictures on the property" would have made a world a difference. Instead we we're ridiculed, treated like scum and told we're lucky they aren't charging us 3 grand for taking a few pictures. S-H-A-D-Y!!!!!!!!

This place is absolutely beautiful and the people are wonderful. What's even better is the wine!!! Can't say enough. Beautiful outdoor patio and tasting bar too! Charcuterie trays are great.

My Favorite Winery!
Sep 2018
This is undoubtedly my favorite winery so far (and I've been to scores of them)! Not only are the wines superb, but the ambiance is luxurious as well! I especially love the outdoor tasting area, adjacent to the vineyard!

The best wine I have ever had.
Jun 2019 • Friends
2014 Coop de Blanc was the best wine I have ever had which includes wine tasting in Rome, Italy. This came as a total surprise. I bought a bottle to take back to our Air bnb. I should have bought another bottle. Later, at another tasting room, someone told us that the owner of Shady Lane Cellars lives in Indiana. I asked where in Indiana since that is currently my home state and he stated Carmel. Carmel is my current home town and has been for the last 23 years. The staff were great too.
