This used to be a special wooden park my kids looked forward to every year. Now it’s a boring generic plastic park. It’s pretty telling that the only thing a lot of kids are interested in is climbing up to a high tower that’s clearly meant to be decorative; it’s really the only somewhat challenging thing available. We won’t be coming back during future trips to South Haven.

We've been to this park a few times and our kids absolutely love it. Every time we go we literally have to peel the kids off the playground when it's time to leave. The play structures are all wood and very timeless. My kids love running, jumping, hiding and finding new friends to play with each time we visit. There are lots of swings, the regular size ones, ones for babies and there is even one that accommodates the handicapped.
I highly recommend coming here if your kids are sick of the beach, maybe you had a long car ride, or just looking for a place to let your kids run free.
Pros:
• Great location across the street from a public beach spot
• There's lots of shade to beat the heat
• The play structures don't have that scary high drop off edges that other play equipment tends to have, I pretty much let me 2-year-old run wild and don't have to worry that he's going to fall and hurt himself
• There are public bathrooms available on site
Cons:
• The slides are metal which can get pretty hot in the summer so make sure to check them before you kid takes a chance with shorts on
• We didn't have any problems finding parking, however, I bet it fills up quickly!

We rushed my son to the ER in South Haven after having him play at this park. He was jumping on the steps where the parents can sit, he ended up missing a step and fell backwards to get a rusty nail in his head.....YES!!! I was a wreck!
Although, the park is gorgeous and unique and has a beautiful atmosphere it is NOT well taken care of by the city. When I went back to see exactly what nail got him in the head, I then noticed SEVERAL nails sticking out and noticed its just overall not maintained like it should be to avoid situations like this...It can happen to anyone!

The playground is quite large, but also attracts quite a legion of children and their families. On the upside, it's directly across the street from Lake Michigan with a beach down a staircase.

This is one of the best parks we have ever been to. It is unique, has lots to do and it's huge! This is a big pirate themed wooden park with lots of places to explore. The kids have loved this park for years and it's great for a range of ages with this made of the younger and older kids. Even seating for parents to be able to watch all the action. There are bathrooms, you can picnic, there is baseball field and plenty of room to throw a football or frisbee around. We like going in the evening then walking across the street to get a great view of the sun setting on the lake.

I was SO sad to see the old playground gone. It was a South Haven treasure. The new playground is nice but nothing amazing. The old playground was very unique.

Don't make this the reason you go to South Haven. The Playground is nice and easy to access, my kids were bored after twenty mins.

Large wooden structure for climbing, swinging, sliding, crawling, and just having a great time. A great place for kids to exercise and parents/grandparents to rest on the benches.

The kids (7, 4, and 1) were impressed with the size of this playground as soon as we arrived. The wood structure was different than the beach playgrounds nearby. Lots of room to play and a nice view of the lake. Bathrooms and a drinking fountain. It’s about a 10 minute walk to south beach.

Awesome wooden climbing structure that the kids love, several sets of swings & baby swings, a separate old fashion slide, and picnic tables. Right across from the beach, with a beautiful lake view. Public bathrooms. There's a baseball diamond, and you may catch a game going on. Keeping an eye on kids in the structure can be a challenge because it's so big, but I do that anyway. There is some shade, but not an over-abundance. Right across from stairs to the beach.

Has this play structure been maintained since the review of several rusty nails sticking out of the wood? See review from this past summer Aug 2017

We have a large extended family (21) with 11 of them grandchildren. Where is a good place to stay near the park? A large house would be perfect. Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks, Angie
