We have been to the Locks a few times, but this time we checked the schedule in advance to know best time to catch ships. The viewing area is large and can accommodate many people. It has ramps to accommodate those who could not do stairs, and the ramps are not too steep. Appreciated the history signs to understand what... More

Learned a lot while reading information about the locks while viewing the area! This was well-worth driving the additional miles on our trip.

The thing that struck me is that we were not only viewing a modern creation of lake travel, we were viewing an historic contribution that started hundreds of years ago and will continue with improvements and expansion. Crossing the bridge to Canada is a treat that should be experienced. Sault Ste. Marie, MI and Canada is more than a bridge... More

Fall visit lovely. Wind protection in viewing area was appreciated! One downfall was the visitor center and therefore the lavatories were closed. We never did find the ones the sign said to follow. They were too distant and down a hill. Too far for elderly or those in need.

We went with our 4 kids ages 9, 7, 5 and 3. It was very informative with awesome history lessons that my husband and I loved. Our tour guide had some really cool fun facts he was telling us and could tell he really knew his stuff and even cracked some jokes which always adds to the fun of it.... More

Awesome to watch this feat of engineering!! It's a slow process but incredible to watch. Very educational too... would be great for school age children.

This is a no frills look at the locks. Luckily when we were there, a boat came in and we could see it being raised. The only real cost is the street parking. Getting to the area where you can view the locks is no charge. The view from the observation decks is very awesome, especially in the fall.

We were there on a rainy day but it was very interesting. We went thu the locks and a large ship had to wait for us, when we were along side we each blew horns that was cool. Than when we were in the Canadian locks they lowered us down we had to stay there till a storm passed, that... More

Finding the Visitor Center, by GPS, is very challenging. It took 30 minutes to find the location, and a place to park. Parking is a premium, metered street parking. We arrived in time to see a 1000' freighter go through the locks. There is a phone number, you can find on line, or at the visitors center, that you can... More

If you can get to the Soo Locks Viewing Platform at the correct time, you can get a birds eye view of the whole process. THIS IS NOT A TOUR. The viewing platform is open to all at no charge. We were lucky to get to the platform as a tanker was approaching the locks. We saw the entry, lowering,... More
